  • Oscars 2013 Beauty Who Had the Best Hair and Makeup of the Night? Vote!
    More info
We were hoping the 2013 Oscars wouldn't be ALL about old-Hollywood waves--well, as it turns out, they pretty much were. However, they were exceptionally pretty old-Hollywood waves, and there were some spectacular updo and makeup moments on the red carpet too. Just look--and then let us know which leading lady you think was the fairest of them all. Jessica Chastain went for classic glamour: (looong) shiny waves by Renato Campora, a red lip and thick black eyeliner. Amanda Seyfried vamped in killer purple cat eyes and upswept hair. Reese Witherspoon wore bombshell waves and her signature blue eyeshadow. Oh, and she told Giuliana Rancic her secret to such voluminous hair (other than Renato, the same guy who styled Jessica): "I just had a baby! I'm not looking forward to when you lose all the hair after the baby." (Funny, Duchess Catherine and I were just talking about that... ) Charlize Theron looked sexier than ever in her pixie cut and sparkling champagne eyeshadow. • Cop Lauren Conrad's Messy Plait By Braiding A Braid Within A Braid
    More info
We never realized just how sneaky Lauren Conrad was — with her hair that is. We were simultaneously mystified and captivated by the extra-loose, wandering braid she wore on a recent Chelsea Lately appearance. The deconstructed plait was gorgeous, but we just could not figure out how she had created that haphazard pattern. Our DVR got a workout from all the pausing we were doing trying to figure it out. Her stylist, Kristin Ess, must have sensed our confusion, because she recently posted a short tutorial on Lauren's website, The Beauty Department, that details exactly how she did it. The stealthy secret is that she braided one of the strands, prior to braiding the whole thing. This breaks up the braid, giving it that messy, undone, how-the-hell-did-she-do-that appearance. Sneaky, sneaky! (The Beauty Department) Photo: Via The Beauty Department
