Tuesday October 15: The boys in our dorm are holding poker night on their floor. Rumor has it they are going to try and turn the game into strip poker. Us girls are too good and innocent for that. Right?
“Stop hogging the mirror. I have to get ready too you know,” I moaned waiting for Ale to stop putting coat after coat of mascara on.
“I’m almost done. I just have to put on my lipstick. Chill out,” she replied, looking at me through the mirror. “Have you ever even played poker before?”
“No. I’m just going because Bradley is going to be there. I’ll have him show me how to play.”
“What’s with you and Bradley? Are you guys dating? How is it that we’re friends and I haven’t met him yet?” Ale questioned, sounding a little bit offended.
“We’re not really dating,” I said, feeling my cheeks get hot. “At the moment it’s more of a friends with benefits thing. I’ll introduce you to him tonight, I promise.”
Ale’s mouth dropped open. “Oh my God. You like him, don’t you? I haven’t seen you blush like that…like ever.”
I laughed and rolled my eyes. “You caught me,” I replied, putting both hands in the air like I was giving myself over to the police. “Was it that obvious?”
“Umm, yeah. You’ve only been texting and talking about him non-stop. I feel like I know him already just based off of what you told me,” Ale laughed.
“I’m done,” she said putting on the final swab of lipstick. “You’re turn to get pretty for Bradley.”
“You know, I think I’m actually going to tell him how I feel tonight. I want him to be my boyfriend…”
“Oh wow, jumping the gun there. Are you sure, Fran? He’s a Kappa. They’re notorious for being jerks,” Ale said in concern.
“Yeah, I know. Bradley is different though…”
“Hey, Francesca!” Bradley said enthusiastically as he gave me a one armed hug. He maneuvered his was around me so he wouldn’t spill his beer.
I squeezed him back and stood on my tiptoes to give him a quick kiss.
I looked back to find Ale. “This is Alexandra…and this is Bradley,” I said motioning to introduce them to one another.
“You can call me, Ale,” she said shaking his hand.
“Nice to meet you, Ale,” he replied giving her a hug.
“You’re a hugger…maybe not all Kappas are so bad after all,” Ale laughed. “I’m still keeping my eye on you though. If you mess with Fran, you mess with me,” she threatened and walked away.
I rolled my eyes. “Sorry about that. She’s like a sister. Very protective.”
“She seems just like you. Maybe not as bad though…” Bradley smirked.
“Hey! That’s not nice!” I said, playfully smacking his arm.
Loud chanting was heard from over by the doorway, interrupting Bradley’s and my conversation. “Danny! Danny! Danny!”
“Who’s Danny?” I asked glancing over at the mob by the door. It was just a herd of people circling around someone I couldn’t see.
“Danny Phillips. He’s on the football team and he’s a Gamma. People call him a big-shot on campus. I call him a douche bag. I can’t stand the guy,” Bradley replied.
“I don’t know. He’s arrogant and I know for a fact that he’s stolen plenty of my friends’ girls.”
I glanced back at the door to see Danny had finally made his way through the pact. It took a second for me to put my attention back on Bradley. Danny was gorgeous. Tall, muscular, blondish-brown spiky hair, and piercing blue eyes. How could the guy not be a womanizer?
“I think the poker games are about to start, I’ll talk to you later,” Bradley said as he was about to walk off.
“Wait, I thought I was playing with you. Weren’t you going to teach me how to play?” I questioned.
“Ahh. Sorry, Francesca. I put myself into a tournament with the guys from my fraternity. Come back later and I’ll teach you how to play.”
Bradley gave me a quick kiss on the cheek and walked off. He was oblivious to the fact that I was furious.
I was tired of waiting around for Bradley. He had just lost in his poker tournament, was visibly upset, but was still entering another one.
“Come on. Lighten up. Teach me how to play this round? “ I begged. “It’s a co-ed round so why can’t I play with you?”
“Sorry, Francesca. I want to win. No offense,” Bradley said walking away to the table.
What a jerk.
I went to grab a drink and noticed Danny standing near the keg.
“Hi. You’re Danny, right?” I asked on a whim, wanting to see if he would flirt with me.
“Yeah, and you are?”
“I’m Francesca. I’m a freshman.”
“Nice to meet you, Francesca,” he said with a smile that could charm anyone.
“Are you playing in the co-ed tournament?” I asked.
“Yeah, are you?”
“No, I don’t really know how to play…”
“I’ll teach you. You can be my partner. Sound good?” he asked.
“I can’t wait!”
I noticed Bradley sitting at the opposite side of Danny at the round table as the tournament was about to start.
“You don’t have to stand behind me the whole time, Francesca. Come take a seat on my lap,” Danny said as he grabbed my hand and pulled me onto his lap.
I glanced across at Bradley who had just looked up. I could see his jaw clench.
“Let’s make this a little more fun…how about we make this strip poker,” a girl sitting next to me suggested.
All of the people around the table cheered showing that popular opinion rules. Strip poker was going to be happening.
By the end of the tournament, I was in my bra and panties. I had to admit I looked the best out of everyone at the table.
Danny agreed. He kept complimenting and pulling me in closer.
Bradley was winning the entire time, but he still looked p-issed. It probably didn't help that I was majorly flirting with Danny in front of him.
“I had a great time with you tonight, Francesca. Do you want to go back to my place? I’ll make us something to eat,” Danny suggested.
“Yeah, I would like that. Let me put my clothes back on first.”
I met up with Ale quickly to tell her I wouldn’t be going home with her…or Bradley. I told her about the whole Bradley situation and she seemed more upset about it than me. I couldn’t wait to hear if she b-itched him out.
“I’m going back to Danny’s place. I’ll call you tomorrow,” I said as I was about to leave.
“Wait…Danny Phillips!?” she practically screeched.
“Yes. Danny Phillips.”
“You better watch out for him. He’s a major player. Don’t trust him…” Ale replied.
“I’ll be fine, Ale. Thanks for the warning though.”
