New York - Autumn in the City — Today was an absolutely perfect autumn day in New York City. The air was crisp, and the sun exuded a cool warmth. This time of year always makes me incredibly nostalgic. It was the autumn of 2009 that I found my passion for photography. I would walk as far as my legs would take me with my little point and shoot camera which was severely limited in its capacity. I was too poor for a smartphone at the time and remember hoping that the no-frills point and shoot that I bought on sale for $79 could help me capture the city I love in photographs. I went through quite a few of those early photos today for a client who found one of the photos on my Flickr account and requested it for an upcoming ad campaign. I keep all of my work on my Flickr account, even the early work. It’s amazing how far some of those early photos have gone in terms of usage. Not all of my early work is what I would consider good. In fact, most of my early work is fairly rough in terms of execution of what I was attempting to do with the limited tools I had at the time. However, I keep them online because I believe it’s important to keep a record of where we have been in life. It helps to put everything in perspective. Most importantly, it helps to track growth and learning. I wanted to share a few of my photos from that magical autumn of 2009. I can still feel every aspect of each moment I captured with my camera when I look at these… The way the leaves gathered at the curb… Early Halloween decorations… Quiet moments where the past and present co-mingled… Horses and Central Park’s autumn foliage… As holiday scenes tugged at the heart… And glowing orange lights warmed up chilly afternoons.. Central Park’s landscapes in their last hurrah before winter… As the first intrepid ice-skaters took to the ice… While the Upper East Side’s architecture framed a perfect hint of orange… As townhouses… And grand architecture uptown stoically waited to hibernate… Brooklyn reveled in Autumn’s warmth… Modern love enjoyed a moment in an abandoned East Village lot… And New York City passionately declared its love for autumn. — Looking for these photos to view larger? • You Have Seen Their Faces
    chairish.com
Adapted for upcoming Streisand movie. 'You Have Seen Their Faces!' What a glorious book of riveting 1930s photographs and steely prose by the famed duo- photo-journalist Margaret Bourke-White and novelist, Erskine Caldwell. Originally published in 1937, this is the First Edition reprint from Viking Press, 1975. Barbra Streisand is set to direct a film on their love story next year. This softcover(wraps) explores and describes the poverty of the Deep South, right after The Depression. Erskine Caldwell was a prolific short story writer and author, who wrote 'Tobacco Road' and "God's Little Acre' in the early 1930s. Margaret Bourke-White was a ground-breaking female photo journalist. She worked for 'Fortune' but was hired by Henry Luce to photograph for "Life." In 1936, she created the first cover for that venerable magazine. After the Caldwell-Bourke-White book book was published, to high acclaim, the couple married in 1939. They divorced in 1942. Eighty years after publication, this book is still a powerful historic representation of that painful post-Depression era. It's also a product of the "marriage" of two creative geniuses, whose passions culminated in a book. If and when the film is released, interest in this book will skyrocket. This copy is in unmarked condition, with some minor cover wear. Text and photos are bright and clean.

  • A Vintage Sunflower Wedding Invitation is unveiled Anniversary Wishes
    More info
Happy Friday! Another week is coming to a close and today starts a weekend of joy, amazement, love and a bit of sadness all wrapped up together. Today my oldest daughter starts 1st grade - she told me last night that she was excited about school but sad too because she will miss seeing her little sister {who is now 11 months} during the day. I'll miss HER as the house will be super quiet now during morning nap time. And, tomorrow, September 7th is the 11th wedding anniversary for myself and hubby. To celebrate, like I do every year on the blog - I have put together a fun little sunflower inspired post. Sunflowers were our wedding flower and I still LOVE them. To celebrate our anniversary, I have designed a brand new addition to my etsy shop, the sunflower wedding invitation. If we were "re-marrying" each other this year, I would most likely design my invitations to look like this. .. a little bit of a vintage touch with earthy colors. Here's a couple beautiful sunflower centerpiece arrangements that I just LOVE. .. source source PS: I saw this deal for a free photo book from Shutterfly in my email and wanted to pass it along as it would make a great gift idea {maybe for a late anniversary gift? I could do a page for each of the trips we've taken}. From now until September 11th, you can receive one free 20-page 8x8 hard photo cover photo book. The coupon code is SUMMERBOOK
