may ninth [mandatory event]
I had been contemplating going up to sing at the Rammer Jammer the entire night. I mean, I had a good enough voice it was just about courage. Which I obviously didn’t have. Tara sat across from me on the loveseat, trying to convince me.
“Why don’t you do it?” I shot back.
We both laughed then. “Have you heard me sing when I’ve had a couple drinks in me?”
“Okay, okay. But I’m scared!”
We decided it was time to go, so we jumped in the car and drove a few miles down the street to the bar, where Lottie and Emery were already sitting at a table near the front, fawning over the singer on stage and drinking their nerves away.
Tara and I sat down next to them, hugging them each. “How are you guys? I feel like it’s been ages since we’ve seen each other!” I exclaimed.
I looked around and noticed my three best friends were looking incredibly beautiful tonight. I missed them, and it made me sad that I hadn’t talked to them in a long time. Why was I so dumb about that?
“I’m great. Robert’s great.” Lottie responded, an ever-lasting glow on her face.
I giggled. “You guys are so cute!”
We all agreed. “What about you and Austin, T?” I nudged her from my seat. I immediately saw that that probably wasn’t a good question to ask, because the smile on her face fell. I put my hand on top of hers. “Is everything okay?”
“What’s going on?” Emery asked.
“Nothing, nothing.” Tara tried to convince us, but she really wasn’t good at that. “Everything’s great. Ooh, this person is done, Willie go up!” She immediately changed the subject.
I could do nothing else but follow her instructions, so after giving her a tight squeeze, I got up on stage and sung my heart out. Which was probably a bad idea because the play-back made me sound like a dying horse. Oops.
