Headline. Mount Dinara is a bold interpretation of the highest mountain in Croatia as envisioned by artist Misha Maynerick Blaise. It was originally created as part of a series called Kolo, named for the Yugoslavian line dance. Blaise balanced precise stripes of color with organic movement because "Kolo dancing is super festive and cheerful, so I tried to capture that feeling in this piece of art." Blaise brushed thick layers of house paint and acrylic on wood to build complex triangle shapes, letting the colors drip freely to either side. The original painting is digitally replicated on stretched canvas. Misha maynerick blaise. Artist Misha Maynerick Blaise finds creative inspiration at home in Austin, Texas, and in every corner of the world. She's inspired by the elegant detail and complex patterns of historic textile design and Eastern European folk art. Whether painted digitally or by brush, Blaise's work reflects the distinctive elements of that style, including the flat use of line and bold color, geometric shapes and decorative ornamentation. • Vitra Miniatures Collection: Eames® Plywood Elephant
Charles and Ray Eames were fascinated by elephants. Many images of these gentle giants are found in Charles' photographic documentations of Indian culture and the circus world. The Eames Plywood Elephant (1945) is among the plywood pieces designed by the Eameses and one of the most difficult to produce. In the early 1940s, they successfully developed an innovative method for molding plywood into three-dimensional shapes, which they used to produce a wide range of furniture and sculptural objects. To render the Elephant, tight angles and compound curves require a sophisticated mastery of plywood technology. It was so complicated that the full-size Plywood Elephant never went into production. Only two prototypes were made, both of which were displayed at the Museum of Modern Art in 1945 and 1946. Today only one known model remains in the possession of the Eames family. Vitra Design Museum has reproduced the Plywood Elephant at a scale of 1:6. True to the original pieces in structure and, the miniatures are precision-crafted, making them a thoughtful gift for a furniture lover or design professional. Each miniature comes handsomely packaged in a wood box with an informational booklet. Made in Poland.

  • Mogens Lassen Kubus 4 Candleholder
A pioneer of Danish functionalism, architect Mogens Lassen approached his design work with mathematical precision. His Kubus Candleholder (1962) is a reaction against traditional candlesticks, which he saw as overly ornate and convoluted. Consisting of only the outline of a cube, it is a simple and angular design. Made of copper-plated steel, the Kubus is polished by hand, making each one unique. Like all copper, the Kubus will develop a rich green patina over time, or it can be polished to maintain its original luster. This licensed classic has been brought back into production by the designer’s grandson, Søren Lassen. Candles not included. Made in Denmark.
  • Arne Jacobsen Banker’s Clock
One of Arne Jacobsen’s last designs, the Banker’s Clock (1971) was devised for the Danish National Bank, also designed by Jacobsen, located in central Copenhagen. This clock is crisply detailed yet restrained, making it adaptable to residential and commercial spaces. Shielded by a convex mineral glass crystal, its clean face has a 12-square line marking each hour position; the square closest to the clock’s center is filled starting at 1 o’clock, the next at 2 and so on, creating a subtle spiral pattern. The Banker’s Clock features a precision quartz movement powered by a single AA battery (not included). This is an authentic Arne Jacobsen clock manufactured by Rosendahl Timepieces. Made in Denmark.

  • Torbjørn Anderssen and Espen Voll Berg Pillow
Believing that color exerts a powerful influence on how we perceive the world around us, designers Anderssen and Voll celebrate their love of rich hues with the Berg Pillow (2010). These heavyweight wool pillows, with their simple aesthetic, are ombré dyed to create a shadowy stripe and tonal shift. They are made with lambswool by Røros Tweed, a leading producer of fine Norwegian products since 1939. The company is named for Røros, a copper mining town that that was transformed in 1789 when mine director Peder Hiort bequeathed his fortune to a foundation for the poor. The townspeople were taught how to spin, weave and sew warm clothing to survive the harsh winters, and in the process, the region became known for its rich tradition of handicraft and textile production. Røros Tweed also owes its success to the quality of its raw– free-roaming Røros sheep are truly pampered, grazing contentedly in fresh mountain pastures. Because the sheep are untroubled by insects in this cool climate, there is no need to use harsh chemicals to clean the wool. Røros Tweed’s clients include the Japanese Emperor, Christian Dior and the White House. Small wonder, then, that the Berg Pillow received the Norwegian Design Council Award for Design Excellence. Made in Norway.
