January 9th: We're all going ice skating tonight down at the local rink. We'll race around the rink all night long and we won't worry about a thing, okay? Afterwards we'll go get a steamy cup of coffee and talk the rest of the night away. If you're not up to it, crash early at home with a movie.

The skating rink was pretty packed by the time I got there. I had been running late because right when I was getting ready to leave, Greg popped up on Skype and we ended up video chatting for a while, which made me late for skating with the girls. But I knew that they would forgive me, since they all understood how important Skype time was.

“Haley! Over here!” Valentina calls out as I walk in, waving me over where a she’s sitting with Tibby and a couple of other girls.

“Hey!” I call back, smiling as I make my way over. “Sorry I’m late, Greg popped up on Skype like five minutes before I was gonna head out.”

“Oh, no worries. How is he?” Tibby asks, half-smiling over at me.

“He’s doing pretty well…he says that all of the guys have been getting our letters and packages and stuff.”

“Oh? That’s great.” She murmurs, nodding. “Did he say anything about Jason? I haven’t heard from him in a few days…”

“No….he didn’t mention Jason. I should have asked; I’m sorry.” I say softly, biting my lip.

“Oh, no…no, it’s okay. It’s not your job to ask about my husband. Don’t worry about it, Haley…really.” She says quickly, shaking her head. “I’m sure I’ll get in touch with him soon.”

“I’m sure you will, Tibby.” I say softly, smiling reassuringly over at her. I felt bad that she hadn’t heard from her husband in so long…she must be going crazy. I knew I would be if I hadn’t heard from Greg in a long time.

“Come on, let’s go get our skates and get on the ice!” Val says cheerily in attempt to lighten the mood.

“Oh god, I’m such a klutz on the ice. You all better not laugh at me.” I say, laughing as I stand up.

“I’m sure you’re fine, Haley.” Tibby says, nodding as she gets up as well.

“Yeah, we all fall sometimes.” Val says, grinning as she pulls me over to the skate rental stand. “Come on, let’s go.”

I laugh, shaking my head at her. “You’re crazy, Val.”

“Oh, you know you love it.” She says, laughing back at me. “Now chop chop! I’ll meet you on the ice.”

I laugh again, nodding as grab my skates. “Go ahead, I’ll meet you two on the ice.”

Tibby and Val nod back at me, lacing up their skates quickly before they get up, making their way over to the rink. I watch then walk off, running my fingers through my hair before I pull my skates on, lacing them up slowly.

“Well, here goes nothing.”
