The doorbell rang, just one minute away before I left for the benefit party. Just my luck. It was probably a request for a wedding cake or something like that. I hoped that wasn't the case, because I had already been missing to a couple of parties. I wasn't in the mood for those, but after a long time without seeing familiar faces, I was more than willing to leave the kitchen.

I opened the door and to my surprise, my sister Abigail stood there awkwardly, sitting on top of some luggage. She looked up and grinned. “Hi Finn!” She said a little too cheerful for my taste. Something wasn't right.

“Come on in, Abby. And what's this?” I asked, pointing at the luggage. Abigail ran inside the apartment, making herself comfortable already on the couch. I grabbed the bags and brought them inside, because it was the polite thing to do and I didn't want anyone to steal from my sister. Not that I was welcoming her into my loft.

“Finn, you don't mind if I crash here, do you?” My little sister said, a sly smile forming on her lips. Her voice was almost pleading. I couldn't blame her, I would've done the same... I kinda did the same, I ran away from home, too.

“M-mind? You came uninvited.” I groaned, “Abby, you're my little sister, and I love you. I do. But you can't do these things without consulting me first.”

“Ouch.” Abigail said, looking away.

“You can stay.” I sighed. “Come on Abbs, you gotta get dressed.” I said, “We're going to a benefit party.”

“What do you do again?” Abigail asked, glaring her eyes at me.

“I'm a pastry chef.” I said.

She started laughing, “A /pastry/ chef?”

“Do you got a problem with that?” I asked defensively.

Abby shook her head, “Not really. It's just that you don't look like the type of guy that would bake for a living...”

“Mom taught me how to bake.” I said.

“Yeah, I know. She didn't teach me anything except to pray day and night and to be a good housewife even though I wasn't even married.” My sister spat and I couldn't help but to feel guilty about it. I loved my parents but they weren't one hundred percent sane. Dad was always on missions across the globe with the local church and mom devoted her life to church as well.

“I'm sorry, Abby.”

“That's in the past. I'm now living with you. I could start remodeling the apartment tomorrow.” Abby offered.

“What? We are /not/ doing that.” I said alarmed.

“Trust me, it'll look better.” She shrugged. “I'll go get dressed.”

–

“Finn Fairchild.” A female's voice purred onto my ear as I tried to get two champagne flutes. I turned around to face Céline. I hadn't seen her in quite a considerable amount of time. My options were either to talk to her or make a run. “Don't act like we don't know each other.” She rolled her eyes.

“I'm not.” I said, almost whispering.

“Good.” She smirked. “You look good in a suit.” Céline smiled.

“I-I'd better go.” I said, “My sister's waiting for her drink.”

“You brought your sister to the gala, how sweet.” She grinned. “However, we both know that's far away from the truth.” She pulled me closer, her breath heavy on my ear. “Maybe we could spend some quality time at my office.”

“I'm baking.” I said.

“Even better.” She winked. “See you around.”

“Who was that?” My sister asked, making me jump, startled.

“C-Céline.”

“Like Celine Dion?” My sister asked.

“Y-Yeah.” I mumbled. “Um, here's your drink.”

“I don't like warm champagne.” She shrugged. “I'll go get some ice.”

“Alright.” I nodded, “I'll go with you.” I said, not wanting to risk it again.
