  • Isamu Noguchi Noguchi® Rudder Table
    dwr.com
Following his apprenticeship with the legendary Constantin Brancusi, sculptor Isamu Noguchi began to experiment in environmental design, theatrical sets and, eventually, product design. He created his first furniture prototypes for Herman Miller in 1942, later going on to work with other companies such as Steuben and Zenith. His Rudder Table (1949) features an asymmetrical form composed of mixed: warm wood and sleek chromed steel. The shape of its top – the same as that of the renowned Noguchi® Table – and the combination of metal and wood legs are true to Noguchi’s original design. At a quick glance, the subtle metal hairpin legs almost disappear, suggesting the top rests solely on the rudder-shaped wood leg, imparting airiness to the whole. This is the authentic Noguchi Rudder Table produced by Herman Miller. Ships flat; simple assembly required. Made in U.S.A.

  • Gordon Guillaumier Cage Side Table
    dwr.com
Educated throughout Europe, Gordon Guillaumier earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in industrial design from Istituto Europeo di Design (IED) and the Domus Academy, respectively. From there, Guillaumier apprenticed with Baleri Associati before starting a collaboration with architect and designer Rodolfo Dordoni. In 2002, he opened his own design studio in Milan, specializing in product and interior design. His alluring Cage Table Collection (2010), like many of his other works, is marked by its subtly flowing geometry. These tables feature precision-shaped one-piece bent steel bases that transition smoothly into platforms for their laminate tabletops, which are created by infusing numerous layers of paper with thermosetting resin and subjecting them to high pressure and heat. Fashioned to withstand years of heavy use, laminate surfaces boast exceptional resistance to scratching, staining, temperature extremes and sunlight exposure. They’re also a cinch to clean. Made in Italy.

  • herman miller Eames Molded Plywood Coffee Table
    shopgrounded.com
The Eames molded plywood coffee table was designed by Charles and Ray Eames using the same breakthrough technology that resulted in their famous molded plywood chairs. Designed in the mid-1940s, the molded plywood table features a thin, slightly indented top and gently curved legs. The table is shaped by the Eameses' process of sandwiching thin wood veneers under heat and pressure. The table top is made by pressing three strong, lightweight hardwood inner plies between natural face veneers. The legs are eight-ply with natural face veneers. The resulting simple, lightweight design speaks eloquently of the fertile early years of classic Eames design. In 1945, George Nelson, the Herman Miller design director, saw the molded plywood coffee table and other ground-breaking Eames molded plywood pieces at a showing at the Barclay Hotel in New York. Nelson was so impressed that he told company president D.J. De Pree that Herman Miller had to hire the Eameses. De Pree demurred-the company was still very small at the time and he wasn't convinced that it needed any designer other than Nelson. But finally he succumbed and went to see the Eames molded plywood pieces when they were shown at the Museum of Modern Art. Nelson contacted the Eameses, and soon afterward, Charles and Ray were designing for Herman Miller. The table went into production in 1946. Dimensions: 34" dia. | 15.5" H.

  • herman miller Noguchi Table
    shopgrounded.com
Isamu Noguchi believed that sculpture should be incorporated into everyday living. His furniture designs are the perfect reflection of this belief...they're sculptural, beautiful and useful. His classic coffee table was designed in 1944 to illustrate an article by George Nelson entitled "How to Make a Table." The table base is made of two identical solid wood elements set at a right angle with a freeform glass top. The ethereal result does not diminish the practical design - a sturdy and durable table. This marriage of sculptural form and everyday function has made the Noguchi table an understated and beautiful element in homes and offices since its introduction in 1948. To ensure authenticity, the signature of Isamu Noguchi appears on the longest edge of the glass top and on a medallion on the underside of the base. Under the medallion, his initials are stamped into the base. Noguchi's coffee table consists of three pieces. A freeform, 3/4" plate-glass top resting on two curved, solid wood legs that interlock to form a tripod for self-stabilizing support. Available in your choice of three finish options. Dimensions: 50"w, 36"d, 15.75"h.
