Hello Lovelies! <3 Welcome to a special edition of my favorites collection. If you guys follow my personal account (@jilliancarter) you see my monthly favorites every once in a while. This one happens to be a special edition since I went to prom last night! :) Enjoy! Also thanks for all your ideas and love! <3
Ps... not sure how exactly to organize this one... hmm....
Pss... Theme of my Prom/Senior Ball was "Happily Ever After" and was held in the Tacoma Union Station. (feel free to google and be amazed! )
I guess it all started with getting a dress....
Clothing: I searched for what felt like forever for a dress. I had a few amazing friends tell me about a place called Debs which carried a variety of dressed and other things. I went with my mom and we spent 5 hours looking at dresses, trying on and ultimately picking two. I decided on one and brought the other back. Long story short, I picked a vintage looking off-white dress that looks very similar to one I found online (Intagram picture of the two side by side - http://instagram.com/p/aBWeVmCrFf/# ) I loved it from the start and ended up paying about 40ish dollars on it! I had to get it hemmed because I'm a shortie, so the cost after that was around 70 dollars! Still a great deal! If you have a debs in your mall, go inside! They have all sizes! great selections! :)
I also looked for a year it felt like to find a shrug to go over it. I found one at Ross that is all lace and it was only 9 dollars! :)
I originally found cute shoes at Lane Byrant, but then found a cuter pair at Wal-Mart for way less! :) they match the dress, white, and have rhinestones on the toes! They were comfy for most of the night and were so much better than heels. :)
Hair Products: You guys probably know, but I love hair products and I love trying new things. I went to Wal-Mart for all my hair care products and accessories. The first find was a heat protectant by Herbal Essences in "Set me up" It has a really nice smell. Probably not the best to put on your hair, but it seemed like a good plan since I was going to make my hair look like Marilyn Monroe (ahha.... I don't have short hair....) It was about 4-5 dollars. The next item I bought was my all time favorite hair spray by Tresemme. Extra firm control Tres Two Spray. It's a 4/5 hold on the can. It has an odd smell, but if you can get over it, it works great for keeping hair in place. It was 5-6 dollars. The last two products are by Garnier Fructis. The first was a hairspray "Full control Anti humidity spray." It has natural bamboo in it and smells really good. The only problem is it can become too crunchy and look like hairspray in your hair (ie glue like spots in hair.) it was also 5 dollars. The last product was a dry shampoo in "volume extend." It smells amazing! I would love it as perfume, haha. It says it should smell like "Orange citrus and grape extract." It worked well to help volumize and it also unlike other dry shampoos doesn't over dry the hair and make it weak. It was 4 dollars.
I curled my hair for this event. I tried at first some options on Friday. I tried a Marilyn Monroe, pin up type look, but my hair is too long and fine/thick for the style. I settle for curls facing backwards and a flower clip up in the one side. I used a heck of a lot of hair spray.
Also for this look I used a 1/2 inch curling iron by Vidal Sassoon. I bought mine at Big Lots for 10 dollars. It love it! :) It gets pretty hot! :)
Beauty: So I usually love my L'Oreal true match products, but recently my mom bought me Rimmel London's BB cream 9-in cream in the shade light. the tube says it works in 9 ways and is a skin perfecting makeup. It primes, moisturizes, minimizes pores, conceals, covers, smoothes, mattifies, brightens and helps protect. It was 6 dollars for a fl oz. I know! kind of spendy but since you don't have to use much it works out. I still used a dab of my True match super bendable powder to set the bb cream even though it probably wasn't necessary. It's out of habit!
I used Maybelline's Mega Plush Volum' Express hydrofuge waterproof mascara. It my all time favorite, and I love the brush from it. 8 dollars at Wal-Marts. I also used their colossal cat eye in waterproof mascara. It love the brush as well. The two combined look very nice and the mega plush helps keeps lashes bouncy. Also 8 dollars.
Maybelline is my favorite for eyeliner as well. Their Velvet black is a classic and I buy mine in water proof. I tried to do a cat eye look for this event, a more Marilyn Monroe look. a modern yet vintage feel.
For Christmas my parents bought me a E.L.F natural eye pallet. IT has a variety of colors all in natural tones. I used a smidge of the black but then evened it out with tones in gold and a light brown color with a nude tone in the corner of the eye. I from there blended it. Loved the way it looked. Very natural and elegant for prom. The only problem with E.L.F is that (at least this pallet) the makeup seems to fade quickly and doesn't stay vibrant as when you first put it on.
Lastly for my lips I used a base of Carmex and then Cover Girl's lip perfection jumbo gloss balm in 210 which is a pretty light link color. I wanted to go red, but I didn't have time to buy another lip stick last minute.
I went with a friend to get a mani pedi (not fake nails!) and it cost me 32 dollars. Let me tell you it was the best 32 dollars I've spent. Chairs with a back massage, feet, leg arm hand massages? Hell yes! :) haha! I loved it. I picked out a silver under tone and a sparkle chunk after wards for a top coat. (instagram picture here - http://instagram.com/p/aBzx7FirKu/# )
Dinner - for dinner our group went to "The Rock" wood fried pizza. They sell a variety of foods. I had their Get back mac. Which is a fancy 5 cheese macaroni and cheese with bacon chunks. They served it with a pizza dough muffin. YUM! and with tax and a drink it only cost 12.00 dollars! Score!
From there we went to prom! It was again at the beautiful Tacoma Union Station. From 8-11. I danced almost the entire time, and we even toasted at the end to class of 2013. There was a laser show on the roof the entire evening and it was so beautiful inside. I danced ALOT! And with a few boys, hey why not? :) Someone stomped on my toe and I think my pinkie toe is now broken... not too sure... :) haha worth it.!
My favorite songs from the night were.... Taylor Swift's Starlight. Perfect since we were close to the boardwalk. Macklemore's Can't hold us. I felt like everyone was on the dance floor for that one, we even had someone crowd surf! :) haha it was really unifying for us. And of course my favorite Cupid's Cupid Shuffle. Every time, I had so much fun I yelled and shouted. People thought I was crazy! :) also worth it.
