Joan I (also known as Jeanne I and Juana I) (14 January 1273 – 31 March/2 April 1305), the daughter of king Henry I of Navarre and Blanche of Artois, reigned as queen regnant of Navarre and also served as queen consort of France.

Joan was born in Bar-sur-Seine on 14 January 1273. The following year 1274, upon the death of her father, she became Countess of Champagne and Queen regnant of Navarre. Her mother Queen Blanche was her guardian and regent in Navarre. Various powers, both foreign and Navarrese, sought to take advantage of the minority of the heiress and the "weakness" of the female regent, which caused Joan and her mother to seek protection at the court of Philip III of France.

At the age of 10 (based on the date of birth above), Joan married the future Philip IV of France on 16 August 1284, becoming queen of France a year later. Their three surviving sons would all rule as kings of France, in turn, and their only surviving daughter, Isabella became queen consort of England. Queen Joan founded the famous College of Navarre in Paris.

Joan was described as having been a plump, plain woman, whereas her beautiful daughter Isabella resembled her father more in physical appearance. As regards her character, Joan was bold, courageous, and enterprising. She even led an army against the Count of Bar when he rebelled against her.

Joan died in 1305 allegedly in childbirth, although one chronicler had accused her husband of having killed her. Her personal physician was the inventor Guido da Vigevano.

The NEW Gallery

The NEW Gallery

Welcome to The NEW Gallery!
This group was inspired by the original Gallery which was run by SylviaAst and Su Zany http://www.polyvore.com/gallery/group.show?id=82286
Unfortunately, this group has closed, but we shared the idea to open a NEW Gallery where every member can have a personal Polyvore art show!

This group offers wonderful weekly Art Exhibitions showcasing ONE MEMBER’s sets at a time in the format of a contest. Everyone is welcome to submit art sets to the group, but, please be respectful and do not enter them into another person’s Art Show / contest (banishment from group and no Show of your own is the consequence). Please let the featured artist know how much you enjoyed their show and don’t forget to vote for your 12 favorites each week!

We will invite group members and other Polyvore artists to feature their absolute best work in a showcase of their ART, FASHION or INTERIOR DESIGN sets for a week. If you would like to have your very own Art Exhibition, please let the moderator know.

------------ For those interested in having an Art Show at the NEW Gallery ------------

Once we have acknowledged that you are interested in being showcased, the next step is to send us a short biography (bio) AND ALSO a title for your exhibition. It's your show, select something that you believe represents your art!

It will be published when your Art Show is set up. Share anything that you want the Polyvore family to know about you when they view your art. Polyvore now limits the space for your bio to 300 spaces or about 55 words, so it must be short.

The next step is for you to send us one http: link for a set that you wish to have published with your bio - the POSTER of the contest.

After receiving your bio and http: link, we will give you the dates of the week that your Art Show will be held. On the beginning date of your Exhibition, we will set up a contest with Your Name, bio and link---this is Your Art Show! During the first 3 days of your Art Show / contest, you submit your fabulous creations. You get to choose what we will see!

Submit A MAXIMUM OF 45 YOUR SETS.

In the case when someone has accidentally submitted their sets to your Art Show, let one of the moderators know and we will try to remove their sets.

The last 4 days of your Art Show is for everyone to browse through your Exhibit and vote on their favorite 12 sets.

No matter what people vote for—You win!
