In the Southern California chapters, we find Richard Diebenkorn alongside his oil painting. "M" and Edward Ruscha, looking jaunty, next to his pastel drawing, "Silicones, Sideburns." There are 46 more black-and-white photos of the artists, opposite their art works (mostly in color). So Cal Artists like Judy Chicago and Claire Falkenstein joining No Cal artists likeRuth Asawa and Mel Ramos in this book. The artworks were chosen by Henry Hopkins; the photo portraits taken by Mimi Jacobs. This 128-page softcover/wrappers is in very good vintage condition - with just the slightest wear to the covers. The former owner blacked-out his/her name on the first free endpaper. The former owner also left two small sticky notes on the photos of artists -Tony Berlant and Tony Delap (easily removed). • Phaidon Publisher - The Design Book
    connox.com
Design Classics Explored Phaidon Publishing House presents a monumental compilation of inspirational designs and products that have made history with "The Design Book". A design classic is usually an industrially manufactured product, whose shaping has timeless aesthetics. A design classic is regarded as standard and a model of its genre and is modern independent of his draft year. The objects in The Design Book from Phaidon are such classics, which are presented in chronological order, each on a separate page with impressive images and a description, which was written by one of the 50 experts, who worked on the colossal image band. The texts include the historical context, key information about the emergence of the design and an explanation as to why the design was revolutionary and still is. Design history explains cultural history The Design Book by Phaidon also represents the cultural meaning of the design classics and how culture and taste change along the decades, in addition to the history of design itself. The design book is a journey from the 19th century when function and beauty were combined for the first time, through the machine aesthetic of the 1930s, the introduction of plastic in furniture construction in the 50s and 60s up to the upcoming classics from the recent past. The book is filled with classics of famous designers such as Le Corbusier , Breuer and Castiglioni, to name but a few, as well as featuring anonymous designed objects whose form reached such a perfection, that improvement seems hardly possible. From the paper clip over vases up to cars, everything is represented in Phaidon’s design book, filling our tables, shelves, kitchens, bags and dreams.
