IN A PERFECT WORLD... We''d get to hang out with Amy Poehler, watching dumb movies, listening to music, and swapping tales about our coworkers and difficult childhoods. Because in a perfect world, we''d all be friends with Amy - someone who seems so fun, is full of interesting stories, tells great jokes, and offers plenty of advice and wisdom (the useful kind, not the annoying kind you didn''t ask for, anyway). Unfortunately, between her Golden Globe-winning role on Parks and Recreation, work as a producer and director, place as one of the most beloved SNL alumni and cofounder of the Upright Citizens Brigade, involvement with the website Smart Girls at the Party, frequent turns as acting double for Meryl Streep, and her other gig as the mom of two young sons, she''s not available for movie night. Luckily, we have the next best thing: Yes Please , Amy''s hilarious and candid book. A collection of stories, thoughts, ideas, lists, and haiku from the mind of one of our most beloved entertainers, Yes Please offers Amy''s thoughts on everything from her "too safe" childhood outside of Boston to her early days in new York City, her ideas about Hollywood and "the biz," the demon that looks back at all of us in the mirror, and her joy at being told she has a "face for wigs." Yes Please is a chock-full of words and wisdom to live by.

  • Book soup The Tiger Who Came To Tea
A voracious guest makes a surprise visit in this ferociously popular tale, first published more than forty years ago. ONCE THERE WAS A LITTLE GIRL CALLED SOPHIE, AND SHE WAS HAVING TEA WITH HER MUMMY IN THE KITCHEN. SUDDENLY, THERE WAS A RING AT THE DOOR. When the doorbell rings unexpectedly one afternoon, Sophie and her mummy can’t imagine who might be there. Much to their surprise, a tiger with a very large appetite has come to tea! What will they tell Daddy when he returns home and finds all the cupboards bare? First published in 1968, this classic and whimsical picture book from beloved children’s author and illustrator Judith Kerr is a delightful (and delicious!) story about the best way to entertain an unexpected houseguest, even when that guest just so happens to be a tiger. A tiger comes to tea at Sophie's house and eats and drinks everything in sight, so that there is nothing left for Daddy's supper. • Old Lady Movie Night: “Clueless”
So who here has seen Clueless? Everyone? All the humans who have ever watched a movie in their lives? Anyone who has blared "Rolling With The Homies" and believed in the magic of Cher Horowitz? Well, the time has come. Nine months after beginning Old Lady Movie Night, we are visiting this cinematic classic, and finally - FINALLY - descending upon Beverly Hills to bask in the warm glow of fake high school in 1995. What took us so long? Well, frankly, I don't know. Bad priorities on my part, I guess, but let's move on and not point fingers because I have already apologized. To be honest, I really didn't watch Clueless a lot when I was growing up, but that's okay because what I missed from ages 10 - 13 I made up between ages 13 - 16. And then 16 - today (27). It's a beautiful thing, this Clueless, and it's inundated pop culture in ways we'll never understand. But let's try to. Let's try to understand with our minds and our hearts and the power of observation....
