  • About a Girl Nicole Zimmermann
    More info
'Success is learning how to keep yourself inspired; it is being surrounded by love and positive energy.' We love the way Nicole Zimmermann (@nicole_zimmermann), a model and recent college graduate, sees the world. Discover more as we spent a night out with her in NYC. Photos by Myles Loftin Above: Nicole wears a BDG Moto Jacket Can you introduce yourself please — tell us a bit more about who you are, where you’re from, and what you do? Hi! My name is Nicole. I’m from a little rural town in upstate New York. I moved to Manhattan after high school to attend college and for modeling. I graduated this past May with my BA in Psychology, and have been modeling full-time since. Since then I’ve spent a lot of time going back and forth between NY and LA for work. I plan to do this until I can, but eventually would like to go back to school for my masters and hopefully become a counselor of some sort. So right now I’m just kinda taking things day by day and trying out a bunch of different things! Above: Nicole wears a Satin Maxi Slip Dress What does success mean to you? Success to me is a number of things; first and foremost, success is being in a good place both mentally and spiritually—loving yourself and learning to accept your flaws. This needs to take precedent before you can achieve success in any other areas of your life. I also see success as being able to do what you love to do and being around kind and creative people. Success is learning how to keep yourself inspired; it is being surrounded by love and positive energy. Above: Nicole wears a Sequin Cardigan and Satin Maxi Slip Dress Can you tell us more about your personal style? What do you like wearing, and what types of styles feel most like you? I guess I would say my style is somewhere in between retro and boho-chic. My wardrobe is very inspired by the 80’s and 90’s at the moment. I LOVE that the 90’s are cool again, haha. I wear a lot of oversized stuff that I feel comfortable in but is also stylish. When I do dress up I like to keep it very simple and elegant; I really love open backs and off-the-shoulder dresses. Above: Nicole wears a Metallic Moto Jacket What are some of your favorite spots for going out for the night in NYC? I love jazz bars, speakeasys, and cool hotel bars—places that give you that old-school NYC feel. Off the top of my head, a few of my personal favorites are Smalls Jazz Bar, Blue Note, La Esquina, and Gemma. What are you most passionate about? I am passionate about art and creation in its every form; there is nothing more fulfilling to me than seeing someone beautifully express him/herself — photography, cinematography, painting, music, dance, etc. I am also really passionate about women’s rights. I took a lot of gender studies classes in college and it broadened my awareness on just how poorly women in our society and around the world are treated. Eventually I would like to counsel young girls and help them overcome such societal pressures. Above: Nicole wears a Satin Maxi Slip Dress What artists, ideas, places, or books are most exciting/inspiring to you right now? There is so much that has been inspiring me lately! I think being back in New York is the reason for this. There is honestly no place in the world like New York — the energy, the art, the people, the diversity. I feel like everywhere I turn there is something new and exciting that sparks my interest. I think traveling to new places is the best way to keep yourself inspired, and with that said I would love to visit Paris, London, and Tokyo in the near future. I also have been really into poetry lately, both reading and writing. Some of my personal favorites at the moment are Richard Siken and Caitlyn Siehl. I’ve also been inspired to delve in to creative direction of some sort; I’ve been brainstorming a bunch of ideas lately, so hopefully I’ll be putting them to vision in the near future What’s your mantra? My mantra is to always keep yourself inspired, whatever that may mean to you. Surround yourself with creative people, try out different hobbies, travel to new places, and alwa
