  • Sarjaton Dinner Plate By Iittala
    2modern.com
Sarjaton, meaning 'without series' in Finnish, is a range that redefines the freedom of flexibilty. The essential parts can be used whenever for whatever and play just as well together as by themselves. Touch the embossed plates, enjoy the soft, muted tones of the color palette or make your own personal compositions. Shaped by the tradition, tailored for today, Sarjaton gives you the natural tools to create as you like. When Iittala brought together a group of young Finnish designers to create a tableware set, the result was a compelling new offering called Sarjaton. Acclaimed artisans Harri Koskinen, Aleksi Kuokka, Musuta and Samuji drew from their combined experiences in fashion, product, graphic and digital design to create a collection that is at once subtly sophisticated and rich with visual interest. Sarjaton is perfectly matched to the needs of contemporary living, and as unique as the combination of designers who created it. Few things in life are more reflective of your personal style than the table you set. Iittala's timeless selection of tableware, glassware and cutlery brings the best you forward. Each of our functional works of art is designed to fit your hand like a natural extension for a complete sensory experience at every meal. Mix and match pieces in endless combinations to provide the perfect setting for casual meals, formal occasions and everything in between. Iittala uses vitro porcelain, which is a modern, durable porcelain with a slightly off-white shade. All Iittala china is oven, microwave and freezer safe. Do not, however, take a dish straight from the oven and put it into a cold, wet surface or put it on steel. Do not put a dish straight into a hot oven from the freezer. A dish filled with liquid is not freezer safe, as liquid expands when it freezes. Do not use the dish if it has a crack because in a sudden temperature change the dish can break. And finally if you cook frozen food in the microwave it should be cooked in low-heat. Sarjaton is freezer, oven, microwave, and dishwasher safe.

  • notNeutral City Plate - New Orleans
    notneutral.com
Part of our second collection of City Plates. The theme of the first collection is Culture and Capital(ism). The theme of this second collection is Culture and Capital(ism) and the cities chosen are New Orleans and Washington, D.C., both rich in history and culture, and the booming megalopolises of Las Vegas and Dubai. With this theme we asked: how does a capital investment in manufacturing culture impact city form? New Orleans - pop. 485,000 (2006); 1.4 million (pre-Katrina) America’s capital of culture – devastated by floods during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. The massive scale of the flooding is frightfully apparent; the white areas on this particular plate represent the parts of the city that were flooded. The Mississippi River curves across the plate in a swath of blue; Audubon Park – on the river’s bank – and City Park, adjacent to Lake Pontchartrain, are rendered in green. While two other cities immortalized in the series – Las Vegas and Dubai – are experiencing record influxes of capital and growth, New Orleans is still struggling. One of America’s richest cultural bastions, New Orleans is still in need of a tremendous capital infusion. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of this plate will go toward helping to ensure the enduring legacy of City Park, a 1,300-acre park that experienced damage to its grounds, trees, infrastructure and facilities. Currently our donations contribute to their capital campaign to help grow the park for years to come. These porcelain plates measure 12” across, with each city’s downtown core printed on a black background. Key buildings are represented with persimmon icons, while rivers and public spaces are shown in blue and green. Each plate is boxed and includes a key to the buildings and spaces included on the plate. 12" diameter. Dishwasher safe. Boxed with Printed Key. Buy the plate.. we send money to City Park in New Orleans.
