  • Olivares Aluminum Chair By Knoll
    2modern.com
On a quest to create a perfect outdoor chair, Jonathan Olivares has designed a chair that is not too heavy, not too light, more comfortable than anything else, and smart enough should it make its way inside. The chair is constructed with a cast aluminum shell and extruded aluminum legs, allowing the chair to achieve its thin profile and organic shape without compromising its durability. Designed to give any space a jolt of color, the chair is offered in a lively palette of bright, electric hues. After graduating from Pratt Institute and the New School, Jonathan Olivares established his own design studio Jonathan Olivares Design Research (JODR) in 2006. The firm deploys a multi-angle approach to product and exhibition design, and research. For the research arm of his design consultancy, Olivares has completed an analysis of the American furniture industry for Domus, and a survey of the history of office chairs, supported by Knoll, and published in 2011 by Phaidon as 'A Taxonomy of Office Chairs.” For the Olivares Aluminum Chair, developed for Knoll, Olivares eventually specified a die-cast aluminum shell, a technique that allows for optimum comfort, durability, and weight.

  • Knoll International Knoll - Bertoia Diamond Outdoor Armchair
    connox.com
Whether chrome plated, satined or coated for outdoors (Rilsan-protection coating), the wire netting of the Harry Bertoia designed and by Knoll produced Diamond chair served as inspiration source for new ideas for generations of aspiring young designers. The Diamond armchair is part of a whole series of chairs, loungers and stools, designed by Harry Bertoia in the beginning of the 1950s. All of the furniture with this wire netting frame are produced and welded by hand in a highly complicated procedure. The trained sculptor and silversmith Bertoia – who saw his chairs as “research in room, form and metal” - placed and slightly pulled a square at its top – interplay of forms with a pleasant result: The armchair is weightless and comfortable. The Diamond chair by Bertoia is exposed in many collections of famous design museums today. It has a classic modern design, which enlarges every surrounding. Its filigree shape reminds us more of a sculpture than of an armchair, but the Diamond chair is still extremely comfortable and it fulfils all the practical demands of seating furniture. The Bertoia Diamond armchair remains a fascinating study out of bent round-tubes and it is an icon among sitting furniture. Knoll offers the Diamond chair in different editions: fully upholstered, with chrome plated or satined frame, as well as with a frame with Rilsan-protection coating as outdoor model. There are suitable cushions for the Diamond Chair by Knoll optionally. Moreover the Diamond armchair is available in an XL edition and as smaller children edition. More details: Characteristics: A classic, modern design which enlarges every surrounding. The Harry Bertoia Diamond armchair remains a fascinating research out of bent round-tubes and an icon of the middle century. Available fully upholstered or only with a cushion. The Logo “Knoll” is engraved in the frame. Construction: Welded steel construction which is available high-glossy/ satined or with a white/ black Rilsan coating. The upholstery is tensed over the seat and fixed with hooks. The cushions are fixed with flaps and buttons. The edition without upholstery in Rilsan is also suitable for outdoors. Surfaces: The Diamond armchair is available highly glossy or satined chrome-plated and with Rislan coating (black or white). The armchair is available whether with a cushion or fully upholstered. Awards: Designer of the Year, USA, 1955 / Certificate of Merit, American Institute of Architects / Design Center Stuttgart Award, Germany, 1962.
