We're finally back in the city! To kick off being back from our trip, Raina's dad is having a charity gala at the Egyptian section of the Met! And guess who's invited… us of course! Come dressed as gorgeous and glamourous as you can, and prepare for glitzy cocktails and an unforgettable night!
The room was buzzing with conversations and the smooth tunes from the jazz band playing by one of the great Egyptian pillars. The color red seemed to be a theme with small dashes of it everywhere; the drinks, the flowers, the band's matching ties, most of the women's shoe soles and the color of my lips.
Photographers from respectable magazines and newspapers were present, but I spotted some paparazzi's amongst them as well. The guests included a bunch of influential politicians from New York, Jonathan Franzen, basically all of Park Avenue's residents, all my friends and their families, a bunch of mobsters, actors, even Beyoncé and Jay-Z were here. If someone were to throw a bomb right now it would take down most of the ''100 most influential people''-list on Forbes.
Chuck and I were very careful not to be photographed together or doing stuff that would make people realize what was going on.
My father came up to us. I could see how he was having an internal fight with himself as he extended his hand towards Chuck, "good to see you, Charles."
Chuck shook it sternly, "you too, mr. Walters." I felt him tense up. I gently caressed him on his back which made him relax a little, but stopped shortly after so it wouldn't seem to weird. "Thank you for letting me come here."
Dad inhaled, "I hear you make my daughter very happy."
"Very happy," I repeated and looked at Chuck who smiled at me. People who knew of us could probably see the signals we were sending to each other. I saw Ava starring at us from the bar.
"She makes /me/ very happy, sir."
My father nodded once, "I'll just mingle with my other guests, hope you two enjoy yourselves," he spun around and walked up to Aurelie, the blonde bimbo. It was funny though, it was as if Aurelie didn't annoy me so much when Chuck was around.
"Go talk to Nate while I say hello to Kris. She looks like she could use a drink or two."
Kris was wearing a Sass & Bide dress I remember looking at in Barney's, although it's a little informal for this sort of event she looked good. I gotta hand it to Ava; she's been a rock for Kris through all of this.
We chatted for a while before I let out the question that had been in my mind for days, "are you okay?"
She glared at me first with a hard look in her eyes, but shortly after it turned softer, "no, I'm not."
I tried to comfort her and put a hand on her tiny shoulder, "things will get better soon. I know they will."
She shrugged as I felt someone touch my shoulder. I turned around. Chuck pulled me into his firm grip and whispered, "bathroom, now."
I heard Kris chuckle from behind and walk away. "Okay, sure, I really could use some," I laughed. I continued, "but now, babe, you better let go so people won't get suspicious."
He grabbed my hand and started dragging me towards the bathroom, "I don't care. I just want to be here with you," he stopped, turned around and lowered his voice, "inside you."
I laughed at the typical-Chuck line and walked with him even faster before entering the empty bathroom.
