  • Normann Copenhagen Ding Table
    shophorne.com
Inspired by ancient three-dimensional wooden brain teaser puzzles, the German designers Ding3000 have created a simple coffee table that is assembled without the help of screws and tools. The table consists quite simply of three legs made from oak. When put together they constitute a sculptural knot that works as the base for an exclusive glass table top. When Ding3000 purchased the puzzles they immediately began to experiment and play with the shape and the puzzle's basic principle: three pieces of wood join together and lock themselves in a seemingly inseparable knot. During the process, it dawned on them that the form would make a perfect base for a table top. The legs are rounded off with chamfered edges, making the table stand sturdily on the floor and the round sheet of glass sit solidly on the base. The three legs seem to pierce through each other in an impossible way, and our intention is to draw attention to this almost magical detail. That is also why we have chosen a transparent top, so the table's key focus point is the joining of the legs. The Ding table is available with either a clear or smoked glass table top, and with a choice of three different types of legs, there is ample opportunity to find exactly the style that suits your furnishings and taste. For example, you can combine a clear glass table top with legs in natural for a clean and Nordic expression, or turn up the intensity with a smoked table top in bold coral-colored or striking black legs.
  • Artek 10-Unit System Table Top
    shophorne.com
Tempered Glass Top Only The Artek 10-Unit System is composed of 10 identical L shaped units that are put together in a certain manner to create a piece of modern and decorative furniture. When a bit of change is desired, the 10 L shaped units can be rearranged to create a chair, table base, stool, bench and more. By simply adding more L shaped units the possibilities become endless. The 10-Unit System really lives up to the motto “One Chair is enough” because of all the variations that can be achieved with just one chair. The 10-unit system is made of an environmentally friendly wood-plastic composite – ProFi – which is manufactured by UPM from their surplus adhesive label stock. The 10-Unit System becomes a side or coffee table with the addition of a tempered glass top. This is for the glass top only.
  • Terence Woodgate Unison Side Table

British industrial designer Terence Woodgate is a Royal Designer for Industry (RDI), the highest honor awarded to designers in the U.K. He’s known for his obsessive attention to detail, which is beautifully illustrated in his Unison Table (2011). Visually simple, this two-tier table is actually quite complex in its design. In place of fasteners and external hardware, Unison uses a lower shelf as the structural component to hold the legs firmly in position. Its glass tabletop rests on neoprene pads, and Woodgate had to be sure to get the weight just right to make the pads grip sufficiently. Visible through the tabletop is the lower shelf with exquisitely cut half-sawn wood veneer. Made in Slovenia.

  • Essey Grand Illusion Side Table - Clear
    shophorne.com
Illusion is a timeless statement of beauty, simplicity and functionality. As with so many great designs, inspiration is often derived from a story: "One day I was passing a Café in Copenhagen. There were round tables with white tablecloths. Each cloth was square and almost touched the floor. I stopped and took couple photos. I then went to a plastic workshop, showed them the image and asked if it was possible to make such an object in plastic. The answer was no. But I continued my quest and after a few months some samples were ready. The result was Illusion, a stunning example of Symbolic Functionalism that has received an extremely enthusiastic reception from both the press and consumers." John Brauer, designer. All Illusion tables are hand made and thus are slightly unique.

  • Normann Copenhagen Tablo Table - Square And Rectangle
    shophorne.com
Once again, Nicholai Wiig Hansen has created a design for Norman Copenhagen which unites function and aesthetics in a simple design. The refinement of the tabletop's sharpened edge complements the lacquered legs beautifully and gives the table a pure and minimalistic feel. The name, Tablo, refers to the English 'table' and the French 'tableau', the latter meaning a scenic, organized arrangement. With its simple expression, Tablo fits into most interior styles and is available in a large and a small version. Tablo is quick and easy to assemble without the use of screws. Nicholai Wiig Hansen says: “For me, it is paramount that function, materials and aesthetics all come together. The design needs to both be useful and solve a basic need - without compromising the visual expression. Being easy to assemble is therefore part of Tablo's function.” Tablo comes in two sizes and works great by itself or when placed together with other Tablo tables.

One & Co. is led by three designers, Jonah Becker, Claude Zellweger and Scott Croyle, who describe their process as "informed intuition that combines art and science, business and creativity, intelligence and beauty." (If they could just bottle that combo, they'd be billionaires.) Keeping an eye on the sustainability of our planet is also crucial to One & Co., and their 47 Table (2010) is no exception. Beginning with reclaimed Douglas fir timbers from old buildings, a proprietary low-VOC process is used to coat the wood with a brilliant layer of silver. (The table is not electroplated as that would result in toxic runoff.) The stunning surface plays up the true character of the wood, bringing out intricate and unique details of each piece. The silver is allowed to tarnish in some areas, and then the entire surface is protected with a clear coat finish to prevent any further tarnish. As for the name of this table, "47" is the atomic number of silver, and the height of the table is 47cm (18.5"). Made in U.S.A.

  • George Nakashima Splay-Leg Coffee Table
    dwr.com
George Nakashima regarded cabinetry and woodwork as a noble art form – a view evidenced in the pieces he designed for Knoll. His Splay-Leg Coffee Table (1946) exhibits his gifted sense of grain, texture and balance. The veneered walnut or hickory top has a reverse slip-matched cathedral grain, which allows the table to be placed facing either way. Mortise and tenon joints and brass hardware secure the top to the angled solid walnut legs, creating a simple, heirloom-quality modern classic. Nakashima referred to himself as a “Japanese shaker,” expressing the belief that his designs should be treated as everyday functional objects, not precious possessions. The Shaker influence can be noted in his extraordinary skill at crafting wood, a material he approached with great reverence, saying, “A tree is our most intimate contact with nature.” A signature plate on the underside of the table attests to its authenticity. This Table is manufactured by Knoll.

A former apprentice to Constantin Brancusi, midcentury master Isamu Noguchi was no stranger to working with metal. The aluminum Prismatic Table (1957), the last piece of furniture that Noguchi designed, is an example of his return to the medium in the 1950s, during which time he created both functional and fine arts objects out of metal sheeting. Evoking the Japanese art of origami, the table features carefully bent and folded angles that lend dimension and a sense of solidity to the design. Small but sturdy, it's a crisp and classic side or end table. This is the first time the three-legged version of the table has been produced, and is artfully manufactured by the Vitra Design Museum in collaboration with the Isamu Noguchi Foundation.
