  • Wassily Chair By Knoll
    2modern.com
Marcel Breuer was an apprentice at the Bauhaus when he conceived the world's first tubular steel chair. Inspired by the frame of a bicycle, a product he greatly admired for its functional design, Breuer saw tubular steel as a way of building a more transparent chair. Influenced by the constructivist theories of the Dutch De Stjil movement, Breuer took a familiar form in this case the classic club chair and reduced it to its elemental lines and planes. The composition of leather strips suspended on steel tubes was the first chair of its kind. Breuer later named the chair after Wassily Kandinsky, the first person to whom he showed the chair. Features: Marcel Breuer Collection. Designed by Marcel Breuer ca. 1925. Materials: Edges of black cowhide leather are dyed black. Frame is seamless tubular steel with a polished chrome finish. Four plastic glides snap into pre-drilled holes on base of the chair. The KnollStudio logo and signature of Marcel Breuer are stamped into the base of the chair. Available in 7 colors. GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality Certified. Dimensions (inches): Overall: 31W x 27D x 28.75H. Seat height: 16.5. Arm height: 23. This product is available in more colors and finishes.

  • Susanne Philippson Guardian of Light Floor Lamp
    luminaire.com
A juxtaposition between traditional shape and innovative engineering, Susanne Philippson's Guardian of Light Floor Lamp appears as a classic lampshade until you interact with it and realize the way the light is turned on. The shade is a cloak that wraps around itself, keeping the magic of the light secret. When the cloak is opened, by means of the protruding flap, the floor lamp gently releases its light, which goes out again when the cloak is closed. Grand and dignified in appearance, the floor lamp gently reveals its hidden light only when its shade is opened. Mysteriously, the light emerges slowly from the depth of the opening to illuminate the room. The light will only fade out when the enfolded cloak is closed again. The shade is made of polycarbonate and matte lacquered with liquid rubber in black or white. The structure is made of steel in the same color as the shade.

Design Christian Dell, 1931. Steel & brass. Made in Denmark by Fritz Hansen. The Kaiser idell™ collection is available in different versions: Table, wall, floor lamps and pendants. Kaiser idell is an original Bauhaus design. The series is based on a world-patented swivel joint and the characteristic dome embossed with "ORIGINAL KAISER-idell". Beginning in 1926 Dell sketched lights, often for the lamp factory Gebr. Kaiser & Co. The first catalogue was launched in 1936 in which the table lamp model 6631 Luxus appeared for the first time.
