  • Normann Copenhagen Onkel 2-Seater Sofa
    shophorne.com
Onkel (the Danish word for Uncle) is a sofa that combines the simplicity of modern forms with the soft curves of the olden days. The outer shell of the sofa has a firm expression, while the cushions are comfortable and inviting. The choice of materials adds a sensuous side with its characteristically Nordic connotations. The Onkel sofa consists of a simple, upholstered frame with cushions. The inspiration for the cushions derives from the more bombastic upholstered sofas typical of the pre-1950s era. To emphasize the merger of two completely different worlds of expression, the back cushion has been elegantly encapsulated by the frame. The materials in Onkel create a dynamic effect with its plain-colored frame, mottled back and cushion and color-lacquered under frame. All in the same color shade. This is what makes Onkel stand as a complete unit. Simon Legald explains: “As a designer, I am curious about how the materials work together with the idea. Onkel is a sofa that was derived of a dialog between craftsmanship and industry. In creating Onkel, I have revived old craftsmanship techniques and used them in a new context. In doing this, the details add character to Onkel.” Onkel is a recognizable Scandinavian design and is available in three colors both as a two or three-seater sofa upholstered with fabrics from Gabriel.
  • Design House Stockholm Bjork Pouf/Stool
    shophorne.com
The Bjork series and its patterned structure offer a modern and enriched textile quality that is beautifully paired with stylish leather detailing. The designer, Lena Bergstrom's, conviction is that the flat textile surface of a rug is just as natural in the home as stone and wood: "The [pouf] is a natural part of the Björk collection, just like the stumps in a birch forest. They are a piece of furniture that is light and soft in its expression." For the Bjork pouf, Lena has drawn inspiration from the rough black and white graphical structure of the birch tree's trunk. The color tones of Bjork create a marbled effect through a warp of cotton intertwined with a weft in wool, known not only for its softness, but also for its in-built resistance to dirt.

  • Philippe Starck One More Counter Stool
    dwr.com
Ten years after designing his iconic Louis Ghost Chair, Philippe Starck added the One More Counter Stool (2012) to the collection. “If you want to sip a drink at the bar in peace and quiet, you need a comfortable tall stool with a back to lean against,” says Starck. “Sometimes one drink is not enough, and you need ‘One More’... and sometimes ‘One more, please.’” Sleek and sturdy, the first Ghost presented a significant manufacturing challenge for Kartell. Crafted from a single piece of injection-molded polycarbonate, the medallion back could be created thanks only to Kartell’s accumulated knowledge, built over years of innovation in plastics manufacturing. The result is a robust collection with a medallion backrest for leisurely comfort. Discussing the design of the collection with The Dallas Morning News , Starck commented that it “has a mix ofand styles based on our shared memories. We all own this piece in a way. The chair is well balanced; I try to be balanced myself.” One More Counter Stool is suitable for indoor and outdoor use in residential and commercial settings. Made in Italy. The single-piece injection-molding process used in making every One More Counter Stool leaves behind several faint artifacts that are perfectly normal, not defects.
  • Stephen Kenn City Gym Sofa - Grey Wool & Blackened Steel
    shophorne.com
Los Angeles based designer Stephen Kenn has long been inspired by clean and simple design aesthetics and the stories inherent in vintage military fabrics. In 2011 he combined those two loves by creating The Inheritance Collection. The collection was the result of an exploration of how furniture is constructed, and then a desire to distill the process down to the barest bones. Likening the process of furniture construction to the way the human body is constructed, the frame, belts, and cushions became the bones, muscles, and skin of each piece. A custom version of our Inheritance Collection sofa originally designed for the Todd Snyder x Champion City Gym shop in New York. The steel welded frame is oxidized black, with grey webbing, cognac brown leather, and Faribault Woolen Mill's Foot Soldier blanket cushion covers. Each sofa comes with a decorative pillow and an additional U.S. Navy reproduction blanket (as pictured).

A footstool is also available for the Era collection, allowing ample opportunity for comfortable relaxation and rest for the feet. Choose between two lovely wool textiles with a vivid feel and beautiful structures, or soft, durable leather in a vast number of colors. Simon Legald says: ”It took a while to get the proportions and the interaction between the soft curves and straight lines on the shells just right. It was crucial that the upholstering and stitching were carried out with the utmost precision. I wanted to create individual chairs where each one had its own character. I did this through the variations of the high and low versions, and by the different frames available for the chair. For example, the wooden frames are flat and add warmth while the slimmer, round steel and chrome frames give a more industrial feel. Finally, the frame for the rocking chair is a slightly unexpected and playful choice for a lounge chair.” Priced with Gabriel Breeze Fusion upholstery-other materials available.
