wellll as someone who has had construction orange hair, teal hair, and red hair, and then has had pieces of said hair fall off, i say dye and cut it. It really is only hair, as dumb and trite as that sounds. Start the locks and dye them, or cut them however you want. Everyday I wish I had done more with my hair. I have locs now and I am seriously considering dying a random slab of it some unnatural color again.
