...Autumn Half-Term Holiday 1995. We were both 11 and on a week's holiday with our familes. We met while playing in the woods that were between our two holiday sites. We played everyday - climbing trees, building dens, throwing leaves, having water fights... On the last day my parents received a hand-written letter inviting us to have a picnic with Harry, his mother and his brother. My father decided to stay and watch TV with my brother but my mother accepted. With my 1 year old sister in tow we met in the middle of the woods for the picnic. My mother nearly fainted when she recognised who Harry's mother was... but soon they were chatting like old friends while Harry, his brother and I chased each other around the trees. We had a great time and said our goodbyes. Our mothers kept in touch through letters and phonecalls over the following 2 years. Harry and I became firm friends and we wrote, emailed, texted and met up whenever we could. There were times when other committments meant that we spent some time not in contact but our friendship has weathered quite a lot over the years. We have been present at each others important milestones over the years, through ups and downs, and we can always rely on each other.
