Meet member @asya-1, a fashion merchandiser who lives in Istanbul and who originally hails from Ukraine. Read on to find out her favorite brands and styles!
Tell us your name, age, profession and anything you’d like to share.
My name is Anastasiia, and I am an international fashion merchandiser for a Turkish retailer. I am 24 years old. I came from the Ukraine to Istanbul, Turkey, a year ago. I love my new city because it is one of the world's fashion capitals. Here, I can express myself and learn more about this field.
What are your personal aspirations/goals?
I would like to experience as many things as I can. Life is too short to spend it on nothing. I would like to become a professional in the field that I have chosen. I would like to be close to people I love. I would like to inspire other people and make them believe that everyone has a chance in life; a person just has to be brave and take it.
How has Polyvore affected your life?
I created an account when I was studying at university in the Ukraine. Even while getting my master’s degree in management and administration, I was dreaming about fashion. With Polyvore, I came to understand that I wanted to make my future career in this area. I started to believe in myself when the number of followers started to grow. After graduation, I left my country and went to one of the fashion capitals of the world — I went to Istanbul. I had no special education in textiles, no fluent knowledge of Turkish and no work experience. But I added that I had a Polyvore page on my CV and noted that I had thousands of followers, and it worked! The biggest fashion retailer in Turkey gave me the job of my dreams. My first year of work in the company’s headquarters is finishing up. I decided that I have to thank all of you from my heart.
How did you find Polyvore?
If I remember correctly, it was 3 years ago when I saw a set in a fashion blog and followed the link.
How would you describe your set style?
Feminine. Even if I make a set with a military look, I try to make it look feminine. Being a woman is a strong power that was given to us, so why not to use it?
Where do you get your inspiration to create a set?
From social events (like the Olympiad, Fashion Weeks, film festivals), from fashion blogs and from everyday life. The streets of Istanbul are full of creative, trendy people.
What are some Polyvore tips you would like to share with the Polyvore Community?
-Do not try to make a set if you have no inspiration. It will never work.
-Be active: like sets, find new friends, share your thoughts about their sets, take part in contests.
-At least one item in each set must be unusual — shape, colour, etc. Highlight it. It will attract more attention.
Does your username have any special meaning?
My name is Anastasiia, but for Turks it is difficult to pronounce, so they call me Asya. I like it.
Where do you live and what trends are big there?
I live in Istanbul, Turkey. A fashion capital, Istanbul has all the trends that are big now, such as pop art; sporty elements in feminine items; metallics; pattern mixing; ethnic, geometric and floral prints; boyfriend styles and so on.
Describe your personal sense of style.
I mix classic shapes (pencil skirts and blazers) with trendy key items. I like to mix textures and patterns. I am in heels 24/7.
What is your favorite brand/designer? What do you like about that brand?
Zara and Mango. I like their collections because Zara and Mango's woman is a confident, strong, self-made personality and, at the same time, feminine. Exactly the woman I want to be.
