Tell us about yourself.
Heather Thomas, age 29, psychology student. My typical look is a pair of my favorite skinny jeans, a cute top and cardigan. I love accessories, so I usually wear a scarf or a necklace. And I am big fan of ballet flats!
Where do you live, and what trends are big there?
I live in Alabama where it is humid most of the year. We have hot summers and mild winters. It can be 50 degrees in the morning and 80 by the time you get home. I find myself wearing layers often. I don't live in a very fashion-forward area. People tend to be practical as opposed to fashionable. Not only is layering popular here, but a lot of people wear transitional pieces that can be worn in different seasons.
What is your favorite brand/designer?
My fantasy closet is filled with pretty Collette Dinnigan dresses and the classic feminine gowns of Donna Karan. I think Oscar de la Renta and Giorgio Armani create such beautiful, feminine classic clothes as well. But of course my real-life closet isn't quite that extraordinary. I enjoy simple, tailored pieces. Honestly, I am a little predictable. I enjoy things from The Loft and The Gap and, when I want to add a little bohemian flair to my wardrobe, I will splurge on something at Anthropologie.
Which celebrity has great style?
I think Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston always look so pulled together and effortless. I envy their style. They make it look so easy!
What are your personal aspirations/goals?
I want to finish college and get my Master of Science in marriage and family therapy. I hope to become a therapist and work with children and teenagers that have chronic or terminal illnesses.
Describe your personal sense of style.
I like clean, simple and tailored pieces. Simple works best for me because I am petite and curvy. I easily get lost in busy prints and heavy fabrics. I love accessories. I have found that I make my look my own with my jewelry. I like to mix and match pieces and wear things that may be unexpected. I may not take risks with my clothes but I am willing to step out of the box when it comes to my jewelry and my shoes!
How has Polyvore affected your life?
Polyvore has been such an amazing creative outlet for me. I have always enjoyed working late into the night on scrapbooks or other paper projects, but in the last few years, my health hasn't allowed me to really enjoy that passion. Polyvore has allowed me to stay creative at just the touch of my fingers. I didn't realize that creativity was so important to me until I wasn't able to pursue it whenever I wanted and at my leisure. Thanks to Polyvore, I can stay creative even when I am not feeling my best.
