Tell us your name, age, profession and what you typically wear every day (and anything you’d like to share).
Hello! My name is Katie, and I'm a 17-year-old student. I absolutely love fashion and style. I find getting dressed in the morning really relaxing, unless I can't figure out what to wear! Luckily, I have a few fail-safe options that I tend to gravitate towards. Striped tops, skater skirts, boyfriend blazers and shift dresses are often featured in my everyday style, punctuated with a belt, satchel and flats.
Where do you live, and what trends are big there?
I live in the South East of England, quite close to London, so my style is definitely influenced by the trends in our capital. Wearing trainers (or sneakers) is a massive trend, and not just for the gym. Lots of people incorporate them into their everyday style as well. I've also seen lots of people wearing crop tops with high-waisted skirts. Given the typical weather here, though, this combination is usually shrouded in a leather jacket, scarf and thick tights!
What is your favorite brand/designer? What do you like about that brand?
I was lucky enough to be able to go to the Valentino: Master of Couture exhibition this year. After seeing the workmanship of his designs, I have to name the Italian designer as my favourite. I also really loved the Valentino RTW F/W 2013/14 collection. The white cuffs and collars, the intricate embroidery, the shift styles and T-bar shoes were all perfect in my eyes. I can imagine walking down the streets of Paris wearing one of the dresses from that collection, just as I can imagine wearing one of Valentino’s couture dresses to a ball!
Which celebrity do you think has great style and why?
I really want to raid Elle Fanning's wardrobe. She always looks perfectly put-together on the red carpet, in beautiful dresses that display her style and personality to a tee. She also has a thing for Valentino, and she isn't afraid to take risks. I love the braided updos she favours as well. Plus we share a birthday!
What are your personal aspirations/goals?
I'm currently awaiting the results of my first lot of exams as part of my A Levels. Just one more year and hopefully, I'll be making my way to a university to study English, probably. I have no idea what I want to do after that, though teaching appeals to me!
How has Polyvore affected your life?
Since joining Polyvore, I've really developed my own personal sense of style, as well as become a bit more knowledgeable about the fashion industry. Polyvore has also led to me starting my own blog, which I love writing. It has also encouraged me to take risks with fashion, as I can experiment with trends by making sets before I unleash them on the world!
Describe your personal sense of style.
I think I have quite an eclectic and a little bit of a quirky sense of style. I always find it difficult to describe, but I really like slightly retro pieces (think ‘60s shifts and lots of collars). I always find amazing items in charity shops (thrift shops for those across the pond) and vintage markets. I also try to look put-together, and I really like to pick out colours from prints I'm wearing and incorporate them into the rest of the outfit. Most of my outfits feature a belt of some sort. I love how they cinch your waist and finish off a look. I like feel-good fashion. Skirts, dresses and colours make me happy so I wear them as much as possible! I don't think fashion has to be serious.
How would you describe your set style?
I have quite a consistent layout: a cascade of images (I used to use several, but lately I've just been using three) with embellishments such as transparent boxes and text, then I build the outfit on top. The style of the outfits, however, fluctuates a lot more. One minute I'll be really into androgynous, urban looks with boyfriend jeans and trainers, the next I'll be making whimsical sets with pastels and lace.
