Whenever I think of Christmas as a child, I remember Homestead AFB. My dad was in the Air Force so we were stationed there for 6 years- my elementary school years. I loved dolls, especially Barbies. I had every Barbie thing imaginable! For Christmas, all I wanted were clothes and Barbies (except when Dawn dolls came out, if anyone remembers those.)
Christmas decorating was not like it is today- much more simple. My mom would color theme our trees and used those satin balls. We had red and gold for a few years. My dad made wooden figures for the yard. At the time Hallmark was really big, so he made a whole Snowman family styled after their Merry Miniature collection. Our house lights were the old bulbs- those big ones that the paint would chip off of. Remember those? They were actually much easier to use- one went out and you just replaced it. The whole darn string didn't go dark! We never lived anywhere with snow so I never had a white Christmas. Even now, I live in California, so the most I see is rain.
