  • About A Girl Tessa Barton
    More info
No matter if she’s on a fall camping adventure or just hanging out home, blogger Tessa Barton knows how to have a good time…and how to document it. The Utah-based photographer has one of our favorite Instagram accounts out there, and to learn more about her IRL, we caught up for a discussion on fall uniforms, current inspirations, and how she spends a day off. Photos by Chantel Marie Who is Tessa Barton? Can you share a quick bio with us — where you’re from, what you do, and how you got where you are? I am from what I think just might be one of the most beautiful places in the world: SLC, Utah. If you have a love for the outdoors, this is your spot. Skiing, hiking, biking, boating, you name it; this place is a vessel for adventure. My family is full of creative souls from designers to painters to musicians to writers, so it was inevitable for me to end up the way I am. My parents were crazy enough to let me follow my dreams when I was 16 years old, and I headed to NYC to study fashion design at Parsons. This was really where it all began—I got a taste of it all and there was no turning back. The food, the people, the clothes, the art, I was sold. I have found a way to now fit all my passions under one umbrella essentially throwing myself into everything I love. I guess I don’t like to define what I do because I still feel as though I am evolving and looking for what’s next. In simple words I am a photographer, a musician, fashion obsessed, 6 foot tall adventurer. How did you first started blogging and sharing your style online? I really started blogging when I began photography. I wanted to create a journal for myself to see my work and watch it grow. I decided that I had a voice and I wanted to be heard. I think there is something so beautiful about a community and sharing what you love. I have been able to connect with people from all over the world and really be inspired to live a full and happy life. I think the magic of blogging is someone letting you in and showing you their world the way they see it. You’re one of our favorites to follow on Instagram. Can you share a tip for styling a better IG pic? I would say when it comes to styling a pic for IG, think about it, what do you wanna say, what do you want to show how you want to express yourself? Pick a theme, so your photos all flow together. Some people like a clean feed, lots of white, and soft tones. I myself am pretty eclectic, the more color the more grain, the better. What's a day in the life like for you? Can you walk us through your daily routine? I don’t know that any day would be the same, in fact I do that on purpose. I am not the best at making plans. I try to take advantage of where I live whether that involves a morning hike or a quick jog around the block... I like to wake up and see my surroundings! I do a lot of answering emails, editing, and phone calls—that’s the routine stuff. And then, I like to enjoy some of the good eats in SLC. My husband and I have been friends since birth, yes we have a silly little love story, but we do everything together. We both love to brainstorm new ideas, companies we want to start, things we want to change! And our nights are filled with playing gigs downtown or a little in-house rock and roll. This last year a friend and I have been working on a new project which has been soaking up lots of my time. We are getting ready to release a new EP, under the name DOE. I am really excited about it! What’s your fall uniform? Boots boots boots, can I say it again? I love boots more than anything in my entire closet. I am also obsessed this season with layering. Not just simple tees and sweaters, but things that don’t make sense at first, like oversize shirts, lace slips, neck ties, big coats, bell bottoms, and all the jewelry I can get my hands on. I like to look relaxed and not done up even though it probably took me way too long to get my outfit together. What are you most looking forward to this season? I hurt my knee pretty bad two years ago so I stayed off the slopes the last bit. I am excited to click back into some s

  • UO DIY Decorating with Instax
    More info
This holiday, deck the halls with your favorite friends and memories. See our DIY tutorials on decorating with Instax film, so the season can be as personalized as possible. If you're dying to get your hands on your very own Instax camera, then you're in luck! We're throwing a contest with Fujifilm and one winner will get (drumroll, please): a $500 UO gift card, one Instax Smartphone Printer and two boxes of Instax Mini Film. Everything you need to get your instant photo DIY dreams off the ground. If you'd like to enter, you must follow Urban Outfitters on Instagram and post an image to your account showing how you decorate using photographs. (U.S. residents only, please!) Make sure to include the hashtags #UOInstaxagram and #UOContest in the caption field or your entry won't be counted! Contest runs from 11/16-12/14, so get snapping! For more details click here. Instax Place Settings For a completely personalized place setting, use Instax photos of your friends as their place settings. If you have the Instax printer, you can print these out ahead of time, but it's also fun to set up a photoshoot station at your next party and snap your guests on their way in. This gives your table a cute personalized touch and also gives your guest a fun memory of the night to take home. Instax Tree If your apartment or dorm doesn't have the space for a regular, real tree, then one that hangs on the wall is the next best thing. For this DIY, we used the Instax printer to print out a photo of a pine tree. While it may look complicated, it's actually pretty simple (just time consuming). All you need to do is find a photo of a tree you like and then manually crop it into Instax-able sized portions. This one took a lot of Instax film, but using a smaller template means less photos. If you don't have the patience for cropping, another fun (and personal!) way to make a wall tree is by arranging photos you already have into the shape of a tree. Simply outline a triangle on your wall and fit your photos in wherever you'd like. The easiest way to hang them up is with double-sided tape: easy to apply, easy to remove, and generally leaves walls mark-free. To ramp up the Christmas spirit, hang string lights around your final product. Insta-tree! Instax-inspired String Lights For a more personal touch on classic string lights, we hung up Instax photos of our favorite moments to help make them stand out a little more. For this DIY, all you need are a couple sets of string lights (we used these), an assortment of photos, and mini clothespins. To hang the string lights, we wrapped the wire around nails, but if you're unable to put so many deep holes in your walls thumbtacks work just as well and leave less of a mark. Once your string lights are hung up, all you need to do is hang your photos where you want them. It's that easy! This is easy to do in the bedroom or living, and gives your room that cozy glow that makes the holidays feel that much more magical.
