  • Carl Hansen & Son Lm92 Metropolitan Chair
    hivemodern.com
Design Larsen & Bender Madsen, 1949. Solid wood, saddle leather upholstery. Made in Denmark by Carl Hansen & Son. "The Metropolitan chair is a valuable Danish furniture classic... the chair tells the story of Danish design at its best." - Knud Erik Hansen, CEO of Carl Hansen & Son. Originally intended as a conference chair, the Metropolitan chair (LM92) went into production in 1950. The design is the result of many intense hours where Larsen and Bender Madsen designed and developed late into the night. The tensioned veneer back was inspired by a lamination technique course Benden Madsen had taken earlier. After a 1961 Danish export campaign, the Metropolitan Museum in New York purchased the chair for its exhibition, The Arts of Denmark. The chair was consequently named the Metropolitan chair - probably one of the greatest honors a chair can earn. On the international design scene, the duo Ejner Larsen and Aksel Bender Madsen are far less known that designers like Hans J. Wegner. But upon closer inspection of their major work - the Metropolitan chair - one begins to understand their intuitive sense for world-class design and craftsmanship. The Metropolitan chair is offered in oak and walnut with various finish options and saddle leather upholstery in your choice of natural, cognac or black. 31.3" h | 22" d | 30.5" w | seat: 16.7" h.
  • Herman Miller® Eames Molded Dining Chair Dcw
    hivemodern.com
Design Charles & Ray Eames®, 1946. Molded plywood, metal or wood legs. Made by Herman Miller® "Who would say that pleasure is not useful?" -Charles Eames. Designers Charles and Ray Eames established their long and legendary relationship with Herman Miller in 1946 with the boldly original molded plywood dining and lounge chairs. Designed to comfortably fit the body, the sculpted form of the molded plywood chairs are produced using thin sheets of lightweight veneer gently molded into curved shapes with natural rubber shock mounts to absorb movement. Since then, the chairs' aesthetic integrity, enduring charm, and comfort have earned it recognition as the best of modern design. Available in either a lounge or dining versions with chrome-plated steel or wood legs. In the early 1940s, Charles and Ray Eames experimented with wood-molding techniques that would have profound effects on the design world. Their discoveries led to a commission from the U.S. Navy in 1942 to develop plywood splints, stretchers, and glider shells molded under heat and pressure. After World War II, they adapted the technology to create high-quality chairs that could be mass-produced. The process eliminated extraneous wood, which reduced the weight and visual profile of the chair and established a basis for modern furniture design. A truly comfortable chair that's suitable for businesses and homes. The chair is in the permanent collection of New York's Museum of Modern Art. Time magazine named it the Best Design of the 20th Century. With a grand sense of adventure, Charles and Ray Eames turned their curiosity and boundless enthusiasm into creations that established them as a truly great husband-and-wife design team. Their unique synergy led to a whole new look in furniture. Lean and modern. Playful and functional. Sleek, sophisticated, and beautifully simple. That was and is the "Eames look." The chairs are offered in your choice of santos palisander, natural cherry, walnut, white or light ash or two colors which allow the wood's natural characteristics to show through. Santos palisander is a lustrous veneer that has the same characteristics as the original rosewood, color and grain. 19.4" w | 21.75" d | 28.75" h | seat: 18" h.
