Moroso Victoria & Albert Small Upholstered Armchair
  • Artifort Tulip Chair
    hivemodern.com
Design Pierre Paulin, 1965. Upholstery, polished swivel base, chrome. Made in Holland by Artifort. "A chair should be more than simply functional. It should be friendly, fun and colorful." -Pierre Paulin. As if Pierre Paulin had premonitions of Flower Power, the simple Tulip spreads its half-open petals around the sitter, inviting and warming at the same time. The Tulip is stately with a high back, which is an eminently comfortable armchair. With its matching footstool, it makes a strong and yet exceptionally comfortable combination. Pierre Paulin studied stone carving and clay modeling at the Ecole Camondo in Paris in the early fifties where he began designing furniture for Thonet. In 1958, he became the designer for Artifort where he created a series of sculptural chairs with an inner structure of steel tubing, covered in foam and fabric. In 1968, Paulin collaborated with Le Mobilier National and received many important government commissions including furniture and interiors for the Elysee Palace in Paris. He also designed home appliances. Restored to its place of honor - the Tulip chair has been reintroduced with its original cross-base. Having once fallen from favor due to the arrival of the swivelling disk base, it can now be admired in all its original glory. The metal-strip cross-base looks lighter and airier than the disk and gives the Tulip an elegant twist. 35" W | 32" d | 37" h | seat: 15" h. Matching ottoman also available.

  • Arne Jacobsen Swan Chair in Milani Fabric
    dwr.com
Before the Swan Chair (1958), Arne Jacobsen’s architecture and designs were shaped by an assumption of’ natural ways of resisting. In other words, he could make them go only so far in becoming the structures he desired. With new technologies, however, the old rules no longer applied, and he was able to shape fluid curves and single-piece molded shells. The Swan Chair is now made from polyurethane foam, but at the time, Jacobsen used Styropore® to create its continuous shape. Designed for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen, for which Jacobsen was the architect, the chair permitted guests to spin on its swivel base, thus becoming active participants in the busy hotel atmosphere. A single upholsterer hand-sews the fabric onto the frame of Swan. Original design and licensed manufacture by Republic of Fritz Hansen. Made in Poland.

The Nanook collection is composed of a chair, an armchair and a low table. It is a study of the transition from two to three dimensions based on observing the tanning process of a quadruped's hide. The chair's upholstery should be seen as a sign, a trace, a memory of the animal, the transfiguration of its skin. This taut skin evokes memories of the animal it once was. The same skin, pleated, gives us the three-dimensionality of a chair or armchair. Its basic shape is a hexagonal arrangement inspired by molecular geometry or a snowflake. The chair's upholstery is a natural skin. Nature's rigorous geometry inspires its shape. Like the animal skins Inuit peoples wear for protection, Nanook's technical-fabric upholstery has tribal echoes. The pleated, three-dimensional skin is transformed into a contemporary object through the use of digital printing for the upholstery, and moulded synthetic material for the frame. Nanook seating - whose name derives from the protagonist of the first nature documentary in film history - preserves tribal memories while looking to the future and to technology with the same optimism with which Nanook observed his icy environment. WARNING: This product is an exhibition model that was presented in a partnership: it may have slight defects due to its use (slight scratches ...). In detail: Colour : Blue - Green. Material : Varnished steel - Beechwood plywood. Dimensions : W 53 cm x D 48 cm x H 77 cm - Seat : D 40 cm x H 44 cm.

    hivemodern.com
Design Arne Jacobsen, 1970. Chromed steel, laminated wood. Made in Denmark by Fritz Hansen. Arne Jacobsen's chair model 3208 was originally designed for the Danish central bank. It is also referred to as the "Lily" and was first introduced at the Danish furniture fair in 1970. The chair is a result of an extremely complicated process that ensures the perfect curves and hence best comfort. The base is chromed steel and available with 4 legs or castors. Arne Jacobsen was very productive both as an architect and as a designer. His cooperation with Fritz Hansen dates back to 1934. The Ant and Series 7 chairs, produced in 1952, propelled both Jacobsen and Fritz Hansen's names into furniture history. At the end of the 50's Arne Jacobsen designed the Royal Hotel in Copenhagen, which introduced the Egg, the Swan, the Swan sofa and Series 3300 to the design world. Arne Jacobsen was and is an admired and outstanding designer. His furniture and other design work have become a national and international heritage. In 1993 Marc Newson created this design highlight for Moroso. The innovative exterior results from the successful combination of colourful cushion and stylishly rolling steel frame. As usual at Moroso, the design is innovative, even futuristic and so it stands out from the usual pabulum in a refreshing way. This is also due to the elaborate side parts that could also be from a science fiction movie. The extraordinary name of the seating furniture stems from particle physics, where gluons (to glue) are subatomic elementary particles that are directly responsible for the attraction of protons and neutrons inside a nucleus. A certain attraction is also originating from Gluon. After having sat down you like to stay "glued”. More details: Design: Marc Newson, 1993. Seat and back are injected flame-retardant polyurethane foam over internal steel frame. Sides are rigid polyurethane with grey lacquer finish. Base is steel with grey lacquer finish. GLUON covers are not removable. The 2-seat and 3-seat sofas of the Gluon series are also available.

    hivemodern.com
Design Jean Prouvé, 1930. Sheet steel frame, fabric cover, leather straps. Made in Germany by Vitra. "Prouvé combines the soul of an engineer with that of an architect" -Le Corbusier. The "Prouvé RAW" collection presents a series of Jean Prouvé furniture pieces interpreted by denim specialist G-Star in collaboration with Swiss furniture manufacturer Vitra and the Prouvé family. Born out of a mutual passion for this French Modernist's iconic designs, the G-Star and Vitra creative teams have worked together to give some of Jean Prouvé's best known designs a fresh and contemporary look and feel, while re-discovering the charm of some of his lesser known pieces. "Prouvé RAW" is a collection of design classics, which embrace the essence of Jean Prouvé's work - a contemporary reinterpretation for today's generation. Jean Prouvé's designs use a language linked to necessity and construction while simultaneously giving technically innovative objects a poetic playfulness. Generally described as one of the greatest French designers of the 20th century, Jean Prouvé (1901-1984) was an architect, an engineer and a passionate teacher, a prolific inventor, a visionary manufacturer and the founder of the Ateliers Prouvé, which was for thirty years the factory as well as a laboratory for his experimental architecture projects and innovative furniture designs. But above all Jean Prouvé was a hands-on "constructer", who never stopped experimenting with his designs, and was always adapting them to the spirit of the times. Starting in fall 2011, the objects in the collection will be available for ordering for one year. The Prouvé RAW Special Edition comprises nine designs by Jean Prouvé, the products are numbered and feature a Prouvé RAW label. The Cité lounge features a molded sheet steel basalt color frame with a 100% cotton fabric cover in either smoke grey or off-white, polyurethane headrest cushions and armrests made of natural leather straps in turf. 26.75" W | 37.5" d | 33" h.
