Introducing *The Vintage Owl* Collection....popular in the 1960's & 1970's.
Today it is quite a trend....however, "Buyer Beware". There are some terrible knock-offs out there and the necklaces are poorly made, flexible, and the silver or gold finish has been painted on a hard plastic. WORTHLESS....!!
The authentic ones are heavy metal and are on large linked chains; usually segmented & movable. The eyes are made of rhinestones or precious gems, such as onyx & turquoise....as well as the bodies. The older ones come strung on a multi-strand, graduated length chain necklace. If you have one of these...DO NOT SELL IT but KEEP IT. Valuable ones are made by Sarah Coventry (gold-tone), Avon (silver-tone), and if you find a owl pin marked *J J* ~ hang on to it for dear life. It is hard-to-find and has become quite rare. Any owl necklace or brooch that has a turquoise inlay is *priceless*. The owl shown in the lower left is a marcasite & rhinestone owl...note the eyes.
