I was thumbing through a magazine the other day and I saw a photograph of Alexa Chung in a pair of Miu Miu cherry sandals and a headline that read: This Week's Shoe Stunners. I didn't have to read the italicized caption to know they were Miu Miu's. And it wasn't just the shoes. Half of the magazine featured items that I recognized from sets that I made or other member's creations, items that I had saved to my account or featured products that were on my home page.
I would not have known any of this stuff three or so years ago.
I've always adored fashion, but my attempts at being trendy would just provoke the kids to tease me in middle school then later on in high school. I lived in a place where people would look at you strangely if you were "over dressed" and no one would ever utter the word "couture" much less even wear it.
I left for college, but when I came back to visit my parents, I landed a job and here I am over a decade later. It took a few years, but it was back to t-shirt and jeans. (I am adding this in as an after thought as I re-read what I wrote and noticed that I didn't do a very good job conveying what I meant by the "t-shirt and jeans" comment. It wasn't just about an outfit or style, for me it was a state of mind. I was in a rut and I stopped caring about my appearances...at least enough to give up my love of fashion. Being here has helped me feel a sense of self-worth that I somehow lost along my journey through life.)
After discovering Polyvore, I re-discovered my love of fashion. And while I might not be able to afford most of the beautiful couture I can now identify in magazines, I find my own way to be trendy. Whenever I need to be inspired, whenever I need to de-stress or feel happy (which is daily), I visit Polyvore. Here I have the most delightful virtual closet with endless possibilities that curb my high fashion desires and Polyvore friends who always make me feel so lovely!
I could go on and on about the impact Polyvore has had (and continues to have) on me...literally...I could go on and on...so I'll just end this by saying that I am so thankful to have discovered Polyvore for many, many reasons. Just like millions of others, I am so in love with this site!! :)
