The birthplace of Braun, Volkswagen, Maier and Lagerfeld, Germany is internationally renown for excellence in design — from cars, architecture and yes, even fashion. Its emphasis on efficiency, elegance and beauty run deep and become particularly apparent during bi-annual Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin and international street and urban wear trade show Bread & Butter — where the very definition of minimal elegance permeate the taste and style of partaking residents and globetrotters around the world. Here in Berlin, the juxtaposition of dark and light (or black and white) take center stage — long, flowing silhouettes in silky-soft fabrics in dark, romantic jewel tones like burgundy, navy and all shades of black. Color palettes are essentially a cross-section of sediment — earthy, sandstone tones like auburn, sepia and terra cotta and other neutral shades like khaki and nudes, most popular with transitional trench coats. Basic outfit elements are kept simple, from sheath dresses and shirt dresses in clean, crisp white to one-piece jumpers paired with denim skirts or classic black booties or Birkenstocks. Silver and suede are the material of choice for accessories — particularly the statement boho necklaces. And of course, we’ve been lovin’ the minimally elegant Chloé Drew mini that’s been popping up all over the place. Part those straightened tresses down the middle and you’re ready to roll. Sonja adds a pop of color to her Navy jumpsuit with bright snakeskin clutch. Andrea pairs a couple classics for a chic, practical look. An everyday bag that fits all the essentials. Chloë Sterk channels a buttoned-up nautical look with a Chanel-inspired dress suit and casual Birkenstocks. Dominique integrates earth tones into her boho look. Jacky styles head-to-toe white with strings of silver. Lisa and friend make a dynamic duo with matching bags and contrasting looks. Lisa dresses down a work look with a denim skirt and slip-ons. Classy heels elevate a sporty outfit. Style a basic white shirt or shirtdress with black and gold for instant elegance.
