and @mewsmom, it's all perspective. You think Jersians are ignoring you and make you feel like you don't exist...from my perspective, that's just a good healthy MINDING YOUR OWN BUSINESS sensibility that is quite respectful and kind...from my perspective. And frankly, I haven't exactly seen the welcome mat being rolled out for me here in Madison. Just sayin..."there's nothin' half way about the Madison way to treat you if they treat you which they may not do at all."

LOL @sophisty, I know what you mean. My first visit to Chicago was completely jarring. I'm not sure what I expected, but I didn't count on walking away with SUCH a bad impression the Chicago people. I mean, again, I come from a small town and New Yorkers were always intimidating, but it wasn't until I visited Chicago that I realized New Yorkers were the good guys lol. However, in it's defense, we were recently in Chicago and I had a much better visit. I think it was staying away from the bus drivers that helped lol. Good old walking worked wonders for my state of mind.

As a former NYC resident, I appreciate your comment! I found it very difficult when I moved from NYC to Chicago. I was used to going to a party with Neal, we'd meet a couple that we hit it off with, and right away the 4 of us would be making plans to go to an art gallery and for coffee the next weekend. We moved to Chicago, and it took us 2 years (really) to make ANY friends. We were SO surprised... we figured city life was city life... but WHAT a difference!

NYC yes, but then there's NJ. Bored waitresses who seem annoyed at your presence, sales clerks who snarl and stare daggers at you, and scores of those who simply make you feel as though you don't even exist. . .like it's just too much bother to acknowledge you. Sorry, but that's the NJ I lived with. BUT NYC was much better for some reason. Anyway, nice set.
