[collab with gianna!!!!!]
I cracked open two beers, handing one to Miles and setting mine down.
"Thanks," He mumbled, not taking his eyes off the game we were watching.
Right when I sat down I heard someone knock on the door. I sighed, setting my beer down and getting back up, "I'll be right back." I walked to the door and opened it.
"Hey," Kat grinned.
"Are you going to let me in?" She quirked an eyebrow.
"Um, my friend is actually over..."
"And? That means I'm not allowed in? I think I can handle your friend Owen."
I shook my head, "No."
There was no way that I was going to let her in. I really didn't want to watch as Miles hit on her and stared at her chest all night.
"You're really turning me away?" She pouted.
"Hey, man, what's going on?" Miles asked, walking up behind me.
Kat slipped past me, walking up to Miles and sticking her hand out, "Hi, I'm Kat."
"Miles," He grinned slowly, shaking Kat's hand.. "I've heard about you."
"I wish I could say the same," She glanced at me, raising an eyebrow. "I hope everything you heard was good."
"Of course." He nodded, leaning towards Kat, "Although Owen never told me how beautiful you were."
Yeah, because i knew he would try to f.ck her if he knew....just like i'm sure he'd try to do now.
"Owen can be an a.sshole sometimes," She smiled. "I was pretty sure that I was his only friend."
"I'm standing right here," I mumbled, getting annoyed.
Kat finally dropped his hand, walking to the living room, "So who's playing?"
"San Francisco and Arizona," I answered, sitting down on the other side of the couch as Miles sat next to Kat.
"The 49ers won 27 to 6," She said.
I looked at her, shocked. I didn't even know Kat watched sports. It was kind of.....hot.
"The game was on Monday.. It's now Thursday," She shrugged. "I'm sorry."
"You watch football and you look like that?" Miles eyed her like she was a piece of meat.
"What can I say?" She grinned, biting down on her lip, "I'm almost perfect."
"And that's where you'd be wrong, you are perfect princess," Miles grinned.
I sighed, this was ridiculous, "No ones perfect."
"He was being nice....and thank you," Kat said to me before flashing another smile at Miles.
I got up, "I'm getting another drink. Do you want something Kat?"
She shook her head, "I'm fine."
"Hey, can you get me another beer?" Miles asked.
I ignored him and grabbed my still half-full beer bottle and walked into the kitchen. It bothered me that he thought I was going to be completely fine with him hitting on Kat. He knew how much I cared about her. I set the bottle on the counter and reached into the liquor cabinet, pulling out a bottle of scotch. I poured it into a glass, filling it up half the way. I took a large gulp before I went back to the living room. Miles had shifted closer to kat, his hand was lightly touching her thigh and his eyes were glued to her chest. I couldn't tell you why, but I felt really pissed all of a sudden.
I cleared my throat, stopping Miles in the middle of whatever he was saying, "Kat, can I speak to you?"
"Sure.." She got up, following behind me to the kitchen and leaning against the counter. "What's up?"
I pointed towards the living room, "What was that?"
"What was what?" She cocked her head to the side, staring at me.
"Miles," I answered.
"He's nice," She shrugged. "A little weird though."
"It doesn't bother you that he was staring at your chest the whole time?"
"No..." She grinned, glancing down, "Honestly, can you blame him?"
"I'm being serious Kat," I said, annoyed by how amusing she thought this all was.
"So am I. Sure he kind of lingers too long, but he's just being a guy," She answered.
"Why didn't you say something then?"
"Like what?" She leaned closer, lowering her voice, "He called me princess.. I'm pretty sure he's harmful."
"Don't be naive, guy's like that only want one thing... To f.ck you and never see you again."
She crossed her arms, "You're acting ridiculous.. Why do you care Owen?"
Why did I care? It was her life and she should be able to do what she wants with it. Still, I knew that I wasn't going to be able to go back there and watch as Miles did everything he could to get in Kat's pants.
"I'm sorry I don't want to sit and watch you guys flirt with each other." I replied.
"Owen, I know there's more."
I sighed, "I don't know Kat. I just- i know what kind of guy Miles is and I just can't stand knowing that he's thinking about you like you're just some wh.re that he's going to get a bj and a nice f.ck from because you deserve so much more than that."
"Thank you for trying to look out for me or whatever but I can take care of myself and i'm not going to sleep with him."
"I know that but that's not going to stop him. I think you should just go," I decided. There was no way to stop Miles from hitting on her and there was no f.cking way I could deal with it for any longer.
"Right.." She started laughing, making me even madder. She stopped when she saw that i didn't find it funny. "You're serious?"
"Kat, I -"
"Why are you acting like this?" She cut me off. "And don't say it's because you're annoyed that your friend is checking me out.. It's more than that."
"Then what is it Kat?" I yelled, slamming my fist against the counter. I was frustrated and not in a mood to deal with this.
Kat stayed silent, staring at me.
"Is everything okay?" Miles asked. I turned towards him, not sure when he had walked in and how much he'd heard. Honestly i could care less.
He stared back and forth between Kat and I, running a hand through his hair awkwardly, "I'm gonna -"
"No," Kat shook her head, passing by us. "I was just leaving."
I followed behind Kat out of instinct, grabbing her arm to stop her, "Kat, wait."
She paused, turning back to face me, "What? I'm leaving. Aren't you happy?"
I sighed, "Don't be mad at me."
"Well you're acting like it."
She shook her, "No, you're the one acting mad. And you have no f.cking reason to be! I don't get it Owen. I don't get you. Why are you getting so worked up over this? It's nothing!"
"I...don't know. I just care about you." I offered up.
"What the hell does that even mean?!"
I stared at her, trying to collect my thoughts. Trying to think of something, anything.
I could see Miles watching us from the corner but I didn't even care. All I cared about was the look on Kat's face, her eyes looking confused.
"I love you."
"That doesn't explain anything," She answered.
"Why can't it though? Why does this have to be about more than the fact that I care about you and I hate seeing a guy look at you like that?"
"Because we both know that's not it. You wouldn't be acting like this if that was the case."
I stayed silent, partly because I knew she was right. Something was bothering me and I didn't know what or why.
"I don't know Kat. I just feel like-" I cut off, not knowing how to put what I wanted to say into words.
"What? Just say it!"
"I think you should go."
Kat stared at me, not saying anything as she turning around and walking out, slamming the door behind her without another look at me.
I felt like an as.s and a horrible friend but I didn't know what to say to her because I didn't even know why I was being such a jerk myself.
"You're really in love with her aren't you?" Miles said from across the room, making me jump a little. I had forgotten he was there.
"What are you talking about?"
"Youre in love. Like Annalie in love."
"Kat's my best friend. I love her but I'm not in love with her. It's just not like that," I told him.
"Who says it can't be like that?"
He picked his coat off the couch and walked over to me, "Well that's not what it looked like in my eyes," He responded. "I'm going to head out but I am sorry about tonight. I didn't mean for any of it to-"
I raised my hand, stopping him, "I know, it's fine."
"Alright, talk to you later man," He opened the door, leaving just like Kat had a minute ago.
