A lot of people say I have good taste in music, but
then when I show or talk about Dir En Grey, they give an odd stare.

And I don't really blame them. -laughs-

They're a band everyone would least expect I'd vouch for or even consider music at all.

Their odd past, their old period where they use to wear make up, long wigs and wear skirts first alarmed me I first heard about them, and I still make fun of them for that til this day.

but once I started to really get into their music, I understand why some of my friends like them. and of course to most of them it ended up just being a phase, or a one week event.

However for me, it's become five years, I've been fascinated by their music when I was fifth-teen. and back then I only listened to bands like Linkin Park, and other bands I don't listen to anymore.

They sound so different, so distinctive that it blew my mind, and hence for opening a gate way for other bands to peak my interest. other jap rock bands, which then lead back to the U.S. And my craving for 80's metal bands started to invade my music selection, and then of course bands like Led Zep, the beatles, and eventually Pink Floyd.

but the reason why they've stuck me with so long, is because their music really helped me out when no one else was there for me. Especially after my semi-first heart break. ( It got over her two months later ) then after my first real heart break, and then third. and the crap between my parents.

But for my last relationship, I didn't use dir en grey, maybe once a few times, but I generally stuck with happy music.

Dir en grey is a band touches me at very deep emotional level. A level so deep I can actually feel the singers pain and sorrow. Who btw has his own story to tell.

so back then, when he and the band started out, they had a different name, and a different guitarist.
Now the singer, kyo was engaged with his wife to be for a few months now, and their relationship was over two years or so.

So one day, he comes to the startling news that his fiance had cheated on him with the lead guitarist, and that she wanted to be with that guy now instead.

This really destroyed him inside, so much that after that day, he vowed never to write happy songs again. And this pain and influence in the bands music can be heard in their slow numbers, like "Akuro no Oka, Ain't afraid to die, Mushi, 24ko Cylinder, Undecided, Jessica, Embryo, Zakuro, Taiyou No Ao, Conceived Sorrow, Ware, Namamekashiki Ansoku, Tamerai ni Hohoemi, Ware, Yami Tote..., Inconvenient Ideal, Sajou no uta Sajou no uta, Higeki Wa Mabuta Wo Oroshita Yasashiki Utsu", and finally "Vanitas."

Again, they're a band that I love because of their emotional route, not their technical. I could say the same for Porcupine Tree, but they do best to balance both out, and it pays out really well for them.
