based in lower east side nyc 1976, one of the most interesting things about no wave is that it existed without reference to rock or punk rock or other genres contemporary to it. it was more a reaction against those things. atonal, brash, noise in the face of three chords, verse/chorus/verse, traditional rock n roll / blues song writing structures. so, it's origin story is rather brief, as was the birth and death of no wave itself. no wave cinema documented much of the characters and scenes as it was happening, and developed it's own style of film making based on a similar avant garde guerilla diy aesthetic. - core.
