  • Vitra Eames House Bird
    hivemodern.com
Charles & Ray Eames®, 1910. Solid Alder, steel. Made in Germany by Vitra. Charles and Ray Eames augmented the interior "collage" of the Eames House with numerous objects brought back from their extensive travels. The figure of a black wooden bird - evidently one of their most prized objects of American folk art - has stood in the center of their living room for over fifty years. Also seen as an accessory in many of the Eames' photographs, the bird figure was from the Appalachian mountain region of the eastern United States. Based on the original artifact and in cooperation with the Eames family, Vitra is now producing the first series of this figure. With a grand sense of adventure, Charles and Ray Eames turned their curiosity and boundless enthusiasm into creations that established them as a truly great husband-and-wife design team. Their unique synergy led to a whole new look in furniture. Lean and modern. Playful and functional. Sleek, sophisticated, and beautifully simple. That was and is the "Eames look." The Eames house bird is made from solid Alder with a black lacquer finish and steel wire legs. 11" H | 3.25" w | 11" L.

  • Aurelie Dellasanta The Bird in water rubber stamp brooch
    boticca.com
This piece was inspired by a whole collection of antique rubber stamps that I found in a flea market. I loved how the rubbers got stained during such a long time. I set it in brass and choose an appropriate decorative frame to create a narrative scene. Here the brass frame is decorated with metal pastes and was found in a flea market. The brooch system is in brass too. Size: 4,5 × 3 × 1 cm. I mainly like to work with recycled materials which inspire me. My process of creation comes from chaos and coincidences. The caracteristic of these found objects lead me into some kind of intuitive game, where I come to discover links and combinations. Through transformation I give them a new meaning, catching up with the magical world of the imperceptible, beauty and ugliness. In this world, all the preestablished rules of our super conditioned society disappear, and others show up, those of chaos and freedom.

  • Iittala Crow
    julesseltzerstore.com
Crow Toikka Glass Bird: It is said that in 1973, while Oiva Toikka was in his study in Nuutajarvi Finland, a bird flew onto his window ledge. It was a rare bird, one he had not seen before in these parts and he began to sculpture it's image in glass. The bird amazingly came back day after day. Professor Toikka continued on to finish it's image in glass. The creation of the bird demanded great technical and artistic insight. He finished his work and just as strange as that particular bird being there, the bird disappeared and did not return. Professor Toikka has continued since then creating his birds, at least one a year since 1973. His birds are hand made and each one is unique featuring its own distinctive colour vatiations. His pieces are highly sought after as gifts and collector's pieces. Each bird is personally signed as proof of authenticity. The little town of Nuutajarvi has been a glass making village for over two hundred years.
