  • Jeffrey Bernett and Nicholas Dodziuk Reid One-Arm Chair in Leather, Right
    dwr.com
Not just for sitting, the Reid Collection (2007) invites you to watch movies, take a nap or surf on a laptop. Maximizing the enjoyment of downtime is something Jeffrey Bernett is passionate about since he spends a fair bit of his free time doing extreme sports, and he held nothing back when creating Reid with design partner Nicholas Dodziuk. Unlike sofas where you sit “on top” of the cushions, Reid is more of a “relaxed sit” thanks to down- and feather-wrapped foam. The seat depths suit various lounging positions, and the wide armrests offer support from elbow to wrist. Discreet legs further the streamlined appearance. Made in U.S.A. Mix and match Reid modular pieces to create the configuration of your dreams.
  • Stephen Kenn Inheritance Armchair - Black Canvas & Blackened Steel
    shophorne.com
Los Angeles based designer Stephen Kenn has long been inspired by clean and simple design aesthetics and the stories inherent in vintage military fabrics. In 2011 he combined those two loves by creating The Inheritance Collection. The collection was the result of an exploration of how furniture is constructed, and then a desire to distill the process down to the barest bones. Likening the process of furniture construction to the way the human body is constructed, the frame, belts, and cushions became the bones, muscles, and skin of each piece. Black canvas cushion covers, black cotton webbing and leather belts interwoven atop a blackened steel frame. Made in Los Angeles, the collection is inspired by the characteristic principles of Soviet Modernism and bold interpretations of Brutalist Architecture through the simplification of form, receptive angular geometries and functional design.

  • Josef Hoffmann Hoffmann Armchair
    dwr.com
Josef Hoffmann is well known for the simple, restrained, yet visually interesting dining chairs – several intended for cafés – that he designed early in the 20th century. The influence of the Arts and Crafts movement can be seen in his work, but Hoffmann also embraced the industrial age. Rather than rejecting traditional decoration, he succeeded in making it serve structural principles, which he believed should determine the forms of buildings, interiors and objects. Whether admiring one of his chairs or the Sanatorium Purkersdorf he designed in 1903, you can see Hoffmann’s emphasis on straight, unadorned lines, characteristics that are in keeping with the style of the Viennese Secession. The Hoffmann Armchair (1925), designed in collaboration with Josef Frank, is made at the bentwood factory founded by Michael Thonet in 1861. Made in the Czech Republic.

  • Philippe Starck Louis Ghost Chair, Set of 2
    dwr.com
Who else but Philippe Starck would dare mess with a king? Reinventing the classic Louis XVI armchair for Kartell, the playful Louis Ghost Armchair (2002) is a postmodern triumph of technical innovation and historical style. Translating the varied lines and formal geometry of its predecessor into a single form of injection-molded polycarbonate, the Louis Ghost is a robust chair with a medallion backrest for leisurely comfort. When interviewed about the collection by the Dallas Morning News, Starck commented that it “has a mix ofand styles based on our shared memories. We all own this piece in a way. The chair is well balanced; I try to be balanced myself.” Suitable for indoor and outdoor use in residential and commercial settings. Stacks six high. Made in Italy. Sold as a Set of 2. The single-piece injection-molding process used in making every Ghost Chair leaves behind several faint artifacts that are perfectly normal, not defects.

  • Jeffrey Bernett and Nicholas Dodziuk Raleigh Armchair in Leather
    dwr.com
Raleigh (2009) is a comfortable collection that draws from midcentury Danish design. It features an exposed solid wood frame that wraps around the back (be sure to click on additional views above to see it) to support the seating area while lending visual lightness and satisfying tension to the whole. Unlike other exposed-frame collections that force overly upright sitting positions, Raleigh is designed with a carefully canted seatback for a more natural way of situating yourself as you relax and unwind. We chose to work with Jeffrey Bernett and Nicholas Dodziuk on this project because of the importance they place on people – how they move, interact, live and, most of all, sit. The Raleigh Collection received Interior Design magazine’s top honor for 2010 in the residential lounge category. Made in U.S.A.

  • Ludwig Mies van der Rohe MR Chaise Lounge
    dwr.com
Ludwig Mies van der Rohe’s MR Chaise Lounge was designed in 1927 as part of his contribution to the Weissenhof exhibit in Stuttgart, Germany. The chair’s cantilevered design uses tubular steel, then a technological novelty, to create an intuitively accessible and ergonomic seat. (When asked why he created chairs with generously sized seats, Mies van der Rohe allegedly replied that he designs chairs he’d be most comfortable sitting in.) The MR Chaise Lounge, still made to his specifications, is perfectly balanced, featuring the material innovation and lack of ornamentation that epitomize the International Style. The Chaise Lounge is manufactured by Knoll® according to the original and exacting specifications of the designer. Made in U.S.A. The MR Collection includes side chairs, armchairs and lounge chairs. This fully licensed classic was awarded the Museum of Modern Art Award in 1977 and the Design Center Stuttgart Award in 1978. The KnollStudio logo and Mies van der Rohe’s signature are stamped on the inside of one leg.

  • Skargaarden Haringe Armchair
    shophorne.com
The Haringe series of teak furniture is refined elegance for indoors, outdoors or anything in between. The sophistication of the series makes it ideal for around the swimming pool, in the game room or just about anywhere. The teak slats are framed with either stainless steel or black stainless steel. The cushions are given a sophisticated touch through the use of buttons and decorative stitching so they are not waterproof but the beauty is still undeniable. The cushions are available in either a weather durable Sunbrella fabric or in imitation leather with loose patches sewn together by hand and buttons added along the seams. The leather cushions are for indoor use only. The series has an armchair, lounge chair, sofa, and cocktail tables in 2 sizes as well as 3 sizes of a dining table. As with all teak furniture, to maintain the original luster the teak requires to be oiled once or twice a year. If left untreated the wood will develop a silvery gray patina which is equally beautiful.
  • Finn Juhl Chieftains Chair

With distinctive shapes inspired by primitive weaponry and a seat that appears suspended above the frame, the sculptural form of the Chieftains Chair (1949) changed the future of Danish design. Finn Juhl created the chair for the 1949 Cabinetmakers’ Guild in Copenhagen. During the exhibition, King Frederick IX sat in the chair, causing a journalist to suggest calling it the “King’s Chair.” But Juhl didn’t like how pretentious that sounded and said, “You had better call it a chieftain’s chair,” which the journalist did. (At some point the apostrophe was dropped.) This original is an authentic, fully licensed product of Onecollection, House of Finn Juhl™. Made in Denmark. Finn Juhl believed that “the craftsman’s ability to form is probably the same as that of a sculptor.” The Chieftains Chair received the Danish Design Award in the Classics category for 2012.

The designer, who helped found the Memphis Group and created the iconic Olivetti Valentine typewriter, finished his seating collection for Emeco shortly before his death on December 31, 2007. dwr.com
Defined by its dependable bentwood construction and simple organic form, the graceful, lightweight and surprisingly strong Era Collection (1859) has been in continuous production for more than 150 years. By making the chair back and rear legs from a single piece of curved wood, designer Michael Thonet, who perfected the bentwood process for chair-making, eliminated the need for expensive and time-consuming hand-carved joints. Swiss architect Le Corbusier used the Era Chair in his buildings, stating, “This chair, whose millions of representatives are used on the Continent and in the two Americas, possesses nobility.” Other fans of this iconic form included Pierre-Auguste Renoir and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, both of whom featured this chair in their paintings. As with any natural material, slight variations in the texture and color of the wood are to be expected and are not defects. Made in the Czech Republic at a factory that’s been making chairs for more than a century.
