Henry Cavill as Prince Ferdinand
featuring Ginnifer Goodwin as Snow White
Do you know how Ferdinand came by his name? Originally I thought it was just his official press name, like Queen Grimhilde and Humbert the Huntsman, but there's actually a different story behind this one. When Shirley Temple presented the Oscar for "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs," she mentioned "Snow White, the seven dwarfs, Ferdinand, and all the others." This was interpreted to be the Prince's name, and recently the fans have adopted it. But actually, Miss Temple was referring to "Ferdinand the Bull," a cartoon short that Disney produced also in 1938! So Ferdinand was never meant to be the Prince's name, but was actually a reference to the bull! But, nevertheless, the Prince's name as Ferdinand has become a part of the Disney fanon a la Prince Adam from "Beauty and the Beast."
