"Beyond Sprigwalk" Lithograph by Laurie Alpert
Polyester Plate Lithograph, Joomchi by Laurie Alpert. From the artist: "This work uses a 500-year-old Korean papermaking technique called Joomchi. In this process you dampen layers of thin mulberry papers, then agitate them together for approximately 40 minutes, unrolling halfway through and rerolling in the other direction. You then unroll them and either let them dry or sculpt them and then let them dry. I am fascinated by this process, and have since integrated it into my work. The images begin with photographs that I’ve taken, either of my studio floor, twigs sticking out of the snow or other seemingly mundane things that I happen upon. I then transform them in Photoshop and turn them into Polyester Plate Lithographs/Joomchi."

Black rhodium plated. Highly polished. Spontaneity is the beginning of the story. We let the pencil follow its course freely on the paper. With every stroke, the line begins to reflect the creativity of its designer and assumes his aesthetic identity. The form flowing onto a plane is now transformed into a structure in space. Jewellery Care: Great care has been taken in creating your jewellery. To protect it and contribute to its longevity, there are a few tips to follow: Store your jewellery separately and in its original packaging as metals and stones can scratch when they come into contact with each other. Do not let your jewellery come into contact with household detergents or other chemical products and take care when spraying perfume. Polish your jewellery frequently with a soft cloth to maintain its original, lustrous finish. Remove jewellery before washing hands, swimming, and/or applying products (e.g., perfume, hairspray, soap, or lotion), as this could harm the metal and reduce the life of the plating, as well as cause discoloration and loss of crystal brilliance. Put on jewellery last when dressing and take off first when undressing. Avoid contact with water.

1897 Original Vintage Decorator Sheet, Plate 20
A detailed, highly colored chromolithograph from a book titled 'L'animal dans la décoration' (or 'The Use of Animals in Decoration') by Maurice Pillard Verneuil and printed in 1897. Edited by E. Lévy with an introduction by Verneuil's mentor, Eugène Grasset, and published by the Imprimerie Lemercier, this pattern book incorporates animals into its designs in a fun and quirky way. Verneuil was a Swiss artist and designer who was recognized for his use of floral patterns atypical of the Art Nouveau style. He used these in his ceramic tiles, wallpapers, textiles - any way he could! He was greatly inspired by Japanese art, and travelled across many Asiatic countries - including Indonesia, Cambodia, and of course Japan - collecting souvenirs and learning about the decorative arts. He was also quite taken with nature and marine life in particular, hence his emphasis on animals in his book. The chromolithographs are printed on thick sheets of paper measuring 13.25 x 17.75". Plate 20 in particular features pheasants and brambles etched into wood, ducks and irises, and butterflies and dragonflies marquetry.

Original A. Jamieson 1820 Celestial Map, Plate 10
An absolutely stunning rare original hand colored Celestial chart map by Alexander Jamieson. Published February 1. 1922 by G&WB Whittakers T.Cadell & N. Hailes London. Made using copper plate engraving in laid paper. Plate X (10) Chart has been professionally mounted and framed. The frame is very intricate with gold scroll detail. Measures 18" X 16" X 1". Jamieson’s Celestial Atlas was an attempt to produce a British version of the highly popular atlases of Jean Fortin in France and Johann Bode in Germany, and it followed the same plan as those. Twenty six plates cover the sky down to declinations between –37° and –42° (the southern limit varies from chart to chart, the most southerly of all being on Chart 27). Two more plates are complete celestial hemispheres, another shows only the brightest stars in the northern hemisphere to aid direction-finding, and the last contains diagrams of the Moon, Venus, Jupiter and Saturn. Jamieson explains in the Preface that he had originally planned much larger charts, but had to reduce them in size because of cost. As published, they are the same size as the charts in the atlases of Fortin and Bode, i.e. approximately 9 inches wide by 7 inches high (22.5 by 17.5 cm) with slight variations from plate to plate. Jamieson also adopted Bode’s innovation of drawing boundary lines snaking freeform between the constellation figures. Jamieson’s charts differed most noticeably from those of Fortin and Bode in his modelling of the constellation figures. Whereas Fortin and Bode closely followed the depictions in Flamsteed’s Atlas Coelestis, Jamieson allowed himself greater artistic freedom. His figures were more realistically drawn, notably in his improvements on Flamsteed’s unconvincing portrayals of Lacerta, Lynx, Cancer, Scorpius and the frankly ugly, Canis Major. Overall, Jamieson’s figures are more appealing than those of his predecessors. More than 100 constellations are included, mostly the same as those shown by Bode. Jamieson also introduced three constellations of his own devising: Norma Nilotica (Plate 21), a rod held by Aquarius, presumably for measuring the depth of the Nile; Noctua, the night owl (Plate 27), which took the place of the Solitaire; while on his chart of the southern skies he quietly replaced Lacaille’s Reticulum with Solarium, the sundial. Facsimiles of Jamieson’s charts were published in 1989 as part of a book called Men, Monsters and the Modern Universe by George Lovi and Wil Tirion.

Regarded as one of the most significant printmakers of the 20th century, in 1927 Hayter founded the legendary Atelier 17 studio in Paris. Since his death in 1988, it has been known as Atelier Contrepoint. Among the artists Hayter was credited with influencing were Pablo Picasso, Alberto Giacometti, Joan Miró, Alexander Calder, Marc Chagall, Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko, Mauricio Lasansky, K.R.H. Sonderborg, K.P. Brehmer and Tinca Stegovec. He is noted for his innovative work in the development of viscosity printing (a process that exploits varying viscosities of oil-based inks to lay three or more colours on a single intaglio plate). Hayter was born in Hackney, London, on 27 December 1901, the son of painter William Harry Hayter. He received a degree in chemistry and geology from King's College London and worked in Abadan, Iran for the Anglo-Persian Oil Company from 1922 to 1925. After Hayter returned home to convalesce from an attack of malaria, his company arranged a one-man show at their headquarters in London of the paintings and drawings he had made while overseas. The exhibition's success (almost all the paintings sold) may have convinced Hayter to pursue a career as an artist. In 1926, Hayter went to Paris, where he studied briefly at the Académie Julian. That same year, he met Polish printmaker Józef Hecht, who introduced Hayter to copper engraving using the traditional burin technique. Hecht helped Hayter acquire a press for starting a printmaking studio for artists young and old, experienced and inexperienced, to work together in exploring the engraving medium. In 1927, Hayter opened the studio, and in 1933 he moved it to No. 17, Rue Campagne-Première, where it became internationally known as Atelier 17. Hayter worked with many contemporary artists to encourage their exploration of printmaking as a medium. Artists such as Miró, Picasso and Kandinsky collaborated on creating print editions (Fraternité and Solidarité) to raise funds for the support of the Republican cause in the Spanish Civil war and the Communist Cause. At the outbreak of World War II, Hayter moved Atelier 17 to New York City and taught prinkmaking at the New School. Artists such as Jackson Pollock and Mark Rothko made prints at the New York Atelier 17. During the war, Hayter collaborated with British artist, historian and poet Roland Penrose and others in setting up a camouflage training unit. He also first produced finished prints with the method he called “simultaneous color printing,” where color was added to inked intaglio plates by means such as color-ink-soaked rags, stencils, or rolling a thicker, more viscous ink over a thinner ink, where the thicker ink is rejected and adheres only to the surface surrounding the first ink. Hayter acted as advisor to the Museum of Modern Art for the show Britain at War. In connection with the exhibition, he devised an analog computer to duplicate the angle of the sun and shadow lengths for any time, day and latitude. Returning to Paris in 1950, Hayter took Atelier 17 with him. Hayter was a prolific printmaker, completing more than 400 before his death. In 1966 his book, New Ways Of Gravure, was published by Oxford University Press. Hayter continued to develop painting alongside printmaking. His interest in automatism led him to associate with the Surrealists, and in the United States he was an innovator in the Abstract Expressionism movement. After Hayter's death on 4 May 1988 'Atelier 17' was re-named 'Atelier Contrepoint'. In 2005 the Tate Archive acquired Hayter's papers. Hayter w

    Coca Cola Store Window Sign
This neat sign was saved from the demolition of an old country store here in Mid-Missouri. It appears to be a paper transfer on a plate glass window. The actual glass size is 17"x 58"x 1/4" thick. I had the sturdy solid oak frame made for this rare unusual Coke find. There are a few areas of repair to the decal. They are hardly noticeable when hung on the wall. The white line seen in a couple pics is the reflection of the overhead lighting. This is truly something you won't find everyday.

Each print in our Original Framed Art Series has a rich history that only an original can offer. With every imperfection that only comes from real age, you can appreciate the unique character of a true 19th century antique. This authentic antique lithograph is from a series of colored illustrations of eggs, first published in British naturalist Francis Orpen Morris 1875 edition of A Natural History of the Nests & Eggs of British Birds and printed by renowned English printer, Benjamin Fawcett. The desirability of this work and its survival in such pristine condition is due to the superb skills and techniques of Fawcett. He selected, ground and mixed inks with the utmost care and used only heavy paper stock of the finest quality, often imported from France. This paper has seen little deterioration with almost no foxing and retains its fine ivory color and sheen. The plates were color printed from separate wood blocks in up to four colors, with additional hand coloring. Morris Original Framed Print features: Museum-quality linen mat & cream inner mat. UV -protective conservation glass. Moulded hardwood frame .

Antique Botanical Prints - A Pair
Both prints were meticulously removed from the 144 year old book, "Alpine Flowers" by David Wooster c. 1872, First Series. These prints are original Xylographs (Colored Wood Engravings) and each print measures approximately 6.5" x 9.5" with removable matting, each piece measuring 9.5" x 13.25". Due to the natural aging process, these prints are slightly age toned and paper is a creamy, off-white color, with very slight foxing. (These qualities are normal for prints of this age and add charming character to the prints.) The backsides of both prints are blank. The left edge of prints have binding marks remaining from the original binding. (This can easily be trimmed off or can be hidden under matting when framed.) These plates are not chromolithographs, but rather Xylographs, although they were created at the time when chromolithography was beginning to become dominant. Prints are shipped on and include the thick 9.5" x 13.25" matting shown in the photos and then could either be removed/discarded or used with framing. Dimensions listed for prints only (not included matting) under "dimensions". Alpine Plants: Figures and Descriptions of Some of the Most Striking and Beautiful of the Alpine Flowers by David Wooster, F.R.H.S. Published by Bell & Daldy, London (1872) David Wooster was a part of the Royal Horticultural Society as well as Assistant Secretary to the Royal Commission on scientific instruction and advancement of science.

Henri Matisse Double-Sided Lithograph, Nude 2
Vibrant & authentic! Perfect piece for a gallery wall or on it's own. Stunning figurative nude, rich thick wove paper. Two works of art in one. Henri Matisse Original Lithograph. Double-sided lithograph of nude & clothed woman. Both signed in plate, 1949 & 1951. Any light streaking on image is from me taking the photo. Litho is in excellent condition and it straight with no bending. Sheet size: 10 1/4"w x 14"h The lithographs after Matisse's late paper cutouts were made under the direct supervision of Matisse in collaboration with the master lithographer Fernand Mourlot, printed by Mourlot Frères on wove paper and published by Tériade for Éditions Verve. This print comes from the edition published in a special 1958 double issue of the French Art review of Verve, devoted to the last works of Matisse, 1950-1954. Opinions differ about the print-run of Verve but the best estimate seems to be 2000.

Ballard Designs Morris Original Framed Print #02

    Laurie Alpert "Cracked Open" Lithograph
A Polyester plate lithograph, Joomchi by Laurie Alpert. From the artist: "This work uses a 500-year-old Korean papermaking technique called Joomchi. In this process you dampen layers of thin mulberry papers, then agitate them together for approximately 40 minutes, unrolling halfway through and re-rolling in the other direction. You then unroll them and either let them dry or sculpt them and then let them dry. I am fascinated by this process, and have since integrated it into my work. The seller says: "the images begin with photographs that I’ve taken, either of my studio floor, twigs sticking out of the snow or other seemingly mundane things that I happen upon. I then transform them in Photoshop and turn them into Polyester Plate Lithographs/Joomchi."
  • "Femme à l'Amphore" by Henri Matisse

"Femme à l'Amphore" by Henri Matisse
This is a beautiful serigraph by famed artist Henri Matisse of his piece "Femme L'amphore." It is framed in a rich, dark frame of what I believe to be walnut, and the piece is signed on plate. The serigraph is matted in blue which really looks good with the dark frame. The frame measures 25" x 21 1/4" and the sight see dimensions (visible art measurement" is 14" x 11". The serigraph has a piece of paper taped to the back explaining what a serigraph is but is also has notes that are hand written including the words "Matisse Serigraph" and "#2028 SJR" I think the last bit is sjr, its hard to read. This piece was part of a large multi auction resolution of an estate out of Sarasota Florida. The previous owner whose name they would not share had an extensive collection of excellent art that took 3 auctions to sell the wall art alone. All of the modern masters were represented in one form or another. It was an impressive collection to say the least. The serigraph is in very good condition but it does had some discoloration along the edges. The consistency and pattern of the discoloration is odd and i am not really sure what it is. I am pretty sure an art restorer could clean that up. Henri Matisse is one of the preeminent artists of the modern day and his serigraphs and lithographs sell in the thousands and his original pieces can sell for millions. 12 pounds

These three chromolithographs (stone lithographs printed in colors) were printed in the early 1900s (each is dated on the upper left). They depict varieties of apples and were beautifully printed by Julius Bien Co. One is signed in the plate by the artist. Each color was carefully printed laying in one color at a time. Care had to be taken that the stones and the paper were lined up exactly to prevent unwanted lines and shadows. The printer also had to know how the colors would combine to achieve the desired result. Beautiful in its composition and style, prints from this work are highly decorative and as such are becoming quite rare. Over 100 years old, they are in very good condition. Blank on verso.
