  • Jasper Morrison Alfi High-Back Chair
    dwr.com
Born in England, Jasper Morrison was raised in both Germany and the United States before his family settled in London, where he attended Kingston College School of Art & Design and the Royal College of Art. Morrison is a self-described conceptual designer, taking familiar shapes and repurposing them into fresh ones. Believing that what you don’t see is as important as what you do see, he designed and engineered Alfi (2015) to be an ordinary chair with extraordinary invisible qualities. Its seat is made from reclaimed post-industrial waste, and its base is made of responsibly harvested wood handcrafted by Amish woodworkers. Adding even more extra to its extraordinariness, Morrison shaped the seat as a nod to cane chairs seen at sidewalk cafés found throughout Paris. The result is simple and simply beautiful, and one he’s pleased with: “It’s one of the most comfortable chairs I have designed.” Made in U.S.A.

  • Josef Hoffmann Hoffmann Side Chair
    dwr.com
Josef Hoffmann is well known for the simple, restrained, yet visually interesting dining chairs – several intended for cafés – that he designed early in the 20th century. The influence of the Arts and Crafts movement can be seen in his work, but Hoffmann also embraced the industrial age. Rather than rejecting traditional decoration, he succeeded in making it serve structural principles, which he believed should determine the forms of buildings, interiors and objects. Whether admiring one of his chairs or the Sanatorium Purkersdorf he designed in 1903, you can see Hoffmann’s emphasis on straight, unadorned lines, characteristics that are in keeping with the style of the Viennese Secession. The Hoffmann Side Chair (1925), designed in collaboration with Josef Frank, is made at the bentwood factory founded by Michael Thonet in 1861. Made in the Czech Republic.

  • Xavier Pauchard Tolix® Marais A Chair
    dwr.com
Metalworker Xavier Pauchard not only brought the art of galvanizing steel to France but also took the process to the next level by creating the Marais A Chair (1934). The quintessential cafe chair, it was both elegant and robust enough to grace the decks of the S.S. Normandie ocean liner. It takes 100 manual operations to create a Tolix chair, and 80 years after the company was founded, the Tolix name is recognized worldwide as best-in-class furniture. “Xavier Pauchard’s Chaise A is a perfect synthesis created by a man possessed of an understanding of raw, and the tools used to work them,” said Serge Lemoine, former director of Musee d’Orsay, Paris. All Tolix furniture is still made in Autun, the same Burgundy town where the company first began. Slight surface abrasions and markings are characteristic of the material and part of its hardworking machine aesthetic. Stackable up to 10 high. Made in France. Tolix products are protected by copyright, making it illegal for another company to clone this chair. At DWR, the Tolix products we sell are 100% authentic. The Marais Collection should be protected from moisture and kept indoors when not in use to maintain its finish. To see more of our top pinned items, click here.

Continuing with top-of-the-line quality, the Asplund collection represents simplicity and elegant design. Influenced by their Swedish heritage along with very stylish & timeless designs, Asplund is considered the best Scandinavian brand with numerous design awards such as Elle Decor, Red Dot Design and Wallpaper* magazine. Asplund's collection is produced mainly in Sweden, ensuring the highest quality, while observing ethical and environmentally friendly production processes. Asplund is aware of their social responsibility as a producer to make furniture that will last a lifetime and that several generations can enjoy. The products are designed in cooperation with well- known swedish and international designers such as Marc Newson, Jasper Morrison, Tom Dixon, Broberg Ridderstråle, Piero Lissoni, Andreas Engesvik, Thomas Sandell, Jonas Bohlin and Claesson Koivisto Rune. The TS chair was designed for the Modern Museum in Stockholm. Functionality was important, so Thomas Sandell created a stackable chair that could easily be put away. The standard color is white blended with the natural wooden color at the bottom of the legs so the chair looks like it is lifting from the floor. Typical of both Sandell and Asplund, this chair is completely contemporary while still making references to traditional rural Swedish design. Its narrow width makes it suitable for limited spaces, both at home and in restaurants. Available With Or Without Unpainted "sock" at bottom of leg. Available in other Asplund standard colors if ordering more than 4 pieces.

  • Normann Copenhagen Era Lounge Chair - Low

Era combines modern production techniques with traditional furniture craftsmanship in a timeless and characterful design. With its streamlined design and high quality, Era is a durable, long-lasting and versatile collection that easily accommodates modern interior’s need for flexibility. The chair is suitable for many different rooms in the home and can easily be used for different purposes as needs change. The Era collection is designed to transcend generations and is just as at home with lovers of design or families with children, as it is with young couples or their grandparents. The Era Lounge Chair is available in both a high and low version. The legs are available in oak, walnut, black lacquered steel or chrome, as well a chrome frame for the rocking chair. A footstool is also available for the Era collection, allowing ample opportunity for comfortable relaxation and rest for the feet. Choose between two lovely wool textiles with a vivid feel and beautiful structures, or soft, durable leather in a vast number of colors. Simon Legald says: ”It took a while to get the proportions and the interaction between the soft curves and straight lines on the shells just right. It was crucial that the upholstering and stitching were carried out with the utmost precision. I wanted to create individual chairs where each one had its own character. I did this through the variations of the high and low versions, and by the different frames available for the chair. For example, the wooden frames are flat and add warmth while the slimmer, round steel and chrome frames give a more industrial feel. Finally, the frame for the rocking chair is a slightly unexpected and playful choice for a lounge chair.” Priced with Gabriel Breeze Fusion upholstery-other materials available.
  • Jeffrey Bernett and Nicholas Dodziuk Reid One-Arm Chair in Leather, Right
    dwr.com
Not just for sitting, the Reid Collection (2007) invites you to watch movies, take a nap or surf on a laptop. Maximizing the enjoyment of downtime is something Jeffrey Bernett is passionate about since he spends a fair bit of his free time doing extreme sports, and he held nothing back when creating Reid with design partner Nicholas Dodziuk. Unlike sofas where you sit “on top” of the cushions, Reid is more of a “relaxed sit” thanks to down- and feather-wrapped foam. The seat depths suit various lounging positions, and the wide armrests offer support from elbow to wrist. Discreet legs further the streamlined appearance. Made in U.S.A. Mix and match Reid modular pieces to create the configuration of your dreams.

  • Eoos Crosshatch Chair
    dwr.com

Eoos is a studio based in Vienna that was founded in 1995 by designers Martin Bergmann, Gernot Bohmann and Harald Gründl. The name is a playful variant of Eous, one of the four chariot horses of sun god Helios, according to Greek mythology. It was the first that resonated with the trio after they spotted it in a copy of Ovid’s Metamorphoses that just so happened to be lying around their office, chosen in part for the way a horse’s erratic jaunts evoke a designer’s irregular everyday forays into the conceptual. Eoos has won more than 70 international awards, including the Compasso d’Oro. Its Crosshatch Chair (2014) balances a visually light aesthetic with sturdy construction, consisting of parachute cord precisely wrapped around a solid wooden frame and seat bottom. The chair imparts the feeling of being suspended in a cozy nest, with a slightly canted back for ample comfort and support. Crosshatch works well in both living areas and office spaces. Made in U.S.A.
