  • Melanie Mckenney Pineapple Bowl
    SOLD OUT: More info
Artist Melanie Mckenney finds her inspiration in nature-not the typical flowers and trees, but in the abundant textures and colors of ordinary fruits and vegetables. She recreates this prickly tropical fruit in sturdy earthenware by making a slip-cast mold from an actual pineapple. To add even more delicious detail, she decorates each piece of functional art with vibrant, food-safe glazes, giving both its sweet, yellow flesh and its spiky rind an air of authenticity. Pineapples have long been a symbol of hospitality. In the 1700's, a pineapple on your front porch told the neighborhood that you were welcoming guests. Like its edible original, when you fill this sculptural bowl with seasonal fruits or summer salads you're bound to make every get-together that much more gracious and inviting. Handmade in Tonawanda, New York. Sold individually. Due to the handmade nature of this item, each is unique and will vary. Made from: earthenware, food-safe glaze. Measurements: approx. 6" L x 4.5" W x 2.5" H; 10 oz. capacity.
  • Craftsman-Style Ceramic Welcome Plaque : Pineapple
    SOLD OUT: More info
The American Craftsman Style, first gaining popularity in the late 19th century, represents a simple and refined form of design with an emphasis on the handmade. Inspired by ceramic work of that era, artist Janet Ontko creates clay welcome plaques with the same simple, yet refined, aesthetics. With a mold of her own design, the ceramic pineapple plaque is individually made using century-old techniques; each is hand-pressed, dried, trimmed by hand, glazed, and kiln-fired for lasting durability. The permanent antique-tan finish is a hand-mixed glaze of Janet's creation that simultaneously provides a hint of aged color and highlights the 3-dimensional aspect of the tile. Includes wire on the reverse for easy hanging. Created by hand in California. A distinctly artful accent for indoors or outdoors!

A beautiful welcome symbol! Fun fact I learned on a Louisiana plantation tour: If you were a socialite of the 1800s living in Louisiana, you’d leave a pineapple at the foot of your guest’s bed to let them know it was time to leave.
