  • Moroso Shadowy Armchair
    SOLD OUT: More info
Design Tord Boontje, 2009. Varnished steel, polyethylene strands. Made in Italy by Moroso. The Shadowy chair, deckchair and Sunny Lounger sunbed have shapes that evoke the beach furniture found at the North Sea in Northern Europe in the twenties. These designs have now become contemporary by the use of digitally drawn color patterns and woven by expert African craftsmen using colored plastic threads. Tord Boontje was born in Enschede, Netherlands. He first studied industrial design at the Design Academy in Eindhoven, and followed with a masters from the Royal College of Art in London. Studio Tord Boontje was founded in 1996. The Studio's work draws from a belief that modernism does not mean minimalism, that contemporary does not forsake tradition, and that technology does not abandon people and senses. The colored patterns are obtained by the weaving of four colors with structure in steel with a robust shape. Shadowy has curious ruffles in the end parts, in the armrests and backrest that turn into a parasol cover. • Muebles Treku Treku Modular Shelving
    SOLD OUT: More info
Most of the designers we know have fairly large book collections, and with that come storage space constraints. The Treku Shelving System has an architectural soundness and modularity that booklovers and designers alike can depend on. Working with basic principles of gravity, the wall-mounting design focuses all of its weight downward into the floor to hold hundreds of pounds without stressing the wall. Each system includes four wenge veneer shelves, which can be adjusted to any height for customized display and storage, and two aluminum profiles. The profiles feature discreet side channels with sliding brackets that screw into the shelves for a fixed position (brackets must be inserted into profiles prior to wall-mounting). This design allows for sturdy shelves that can adjust quickly and easily without the hassle of separate hardware. Additional shelving units can be added to the system at any time. Plastic leveling feet adjust for uneven floors. Because of the system's small, almost square footprint and height adjustable shelves, the Treku Shelves can efficiently accommodate objects large and small. Assembly required. Made in Spain. Weight capacity per shelf is 110 lbs.
  • Moroso Wavy Stacking Chair
    SOLD OUT: More info
Design Ron Arad, 2007. Tubular steel, polyethylene. Made in Italy by Moroso. As always, Ron Arad explores the potential capacities and performance of the materials he works with and raises the bar. Wavy, a chair with a plastic seat on a metal base, whose name describes its graceful shape. Not only is the seat wavy, but its surface is covered in tiny rows of waves. Ron Arad uses plastic unconventionally and achieves an extraordinarily light effect. The plastic appears to become a soft fabric draped over the metal frame. Wavy has a gentle, light air and an unusual feeling of malleability. Yet it is also snug and comfortable, its tiny surface waves massage the body and ensure optimum comfort. "A chair has a given shape, a well-defined function. The very fact that its design has been so thoroughly explored and reinterpreted makes the discovery of new territories even more exciting". Hailed as one of the foremost designers of the 20th Century, Ron Arad was born in Tel Aviv and studied at the Jerusalem Academy of Art before moving to London and the Architectural Association where he studied under Peter Cook, founder of Archigram. Ron Arad has successfully established a unique design style using unorthodox combinations of materials and concepts. Wavy is offered in three colors and is available with a black varnished or stainless steel frame. Can be stacked up to 4 chairs. 26.75" w | 38.5" h | 26" d | seat: 17.75" h.

  • Kartell Joe Colombo 4801 Armchair
    SOLD OUT: More info
Design Joe Colombo. Transparent or batch-dyed PMMA. Made in Italy by Kartell. For the first time in its 60-year history, Kartell will pay homage to one of the most iconic - and perhaps uncharacteristic - pieces in its archive with the reissue of Joe Colombo's 4801 Armchair. Originally designed by the Italian master in 1965, the 4801 chair is famous for being the only Kartell piece ever to be made entirely of wood. Now, nearly fifty years later, Kartell has developed the complex and technically challenging engineering methods necessary to produce the design as originally envisioned, in its signature plastic. An authentic symbol of design in the '60s, the highly sought-after 4801 chair is revered by private collectors and institutions alike, and has been displayed internationally at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Victoria & Albert Museum in London and the Centre Pompidou in Paris. The second generation of the 4801 chair is to be available in a numbered series beginning in February 2012, captures the curving sinuous lines and exact proportions of Colombo's design, now in sleek transparent or white and black plastic (PMMA). Joe Colombo, in his design utopia, gathered many of the common hopes of the 60's in Italy and Europe but was never slave to ideological bounds. His extremely fast escalation in becoming an internationally known designer brought him three medals at the XIII Triennale in Milan, the 1967 Compasso d'Oro award and creations which are included in permanent collections around the world. 24.4" w | 25.2" d | 27.2" h | seat: 9.8" h.

  • Charles and Ray Eames Eames® Wire Chair with Bikini Pad (DKR.2)
    dwr.com
After refining their molded plastic chairs, Charles and Ray Eames began experimenting with making a chair from welded wire. To succeed, the Eameses had to figure out how to create a design with the strength they needed while keeping manufacturing costs as low as possible. Ultimately, they decided on using lighter-gauge wire doubled over into a rim that sandwiches heavier inner wire to form their Eames Wire Chair (1951), which won them their first American mechanical design patent. Its organic shape and airy silhouette are complemented by what’s commonly referred to as an Eiffel base (because of its trademark shape). This is an authentic Eames product by Herman Miller. Commercial quality. Made in U.S.A. DKR.2 stands for dining height, wire shell, rod base, bikini pad.
