SO well said @mcheffer ! You nailed it using the word "etiquette". We are all aware of the rules, but while the majority of us respect each other's search efforts and artistic vision, there are too many greedy and lazy one, yes, RAIDING unique finds that I am so excited to use, be it immediately or in the near future.
Biggest pet peeves:
- after coming back to my board to use my new finds, somebody has already 'liked' them.
- somebody liking 99% of items from the same set...do they plan on copying me?
- liking 20 items, same person comes back an hour later and likes 12 more, then 6 more, etc.
- creating a COLLECTION for members use, then being raided like crazy because they want to see more of what I have.

Maybe this is going down to their level, but lately I find myself raiding them back!

indeed....I do take time to enlarge my collections according to topic, colors etc.... when I do "like" quite a few items (especially on one set) I put those items away ....as to NOT use them for a while & I can put my own creativity to them...If I like a lot of items ..I send a message to the poly-person...I start checking out there sets too...I want to have a nice community of creative people that we enjoy each others work....That's the whole point....THX Polyvore for the fun. :)

Well said @nansg !
Copying sets is wrong and shows a complete lack of originality!
Liking items (or 'raiding' as some call it) is what Polyvore is about. We share. Every Polyvorian has at some point used items that they did not clip personally. So why do people get very upset about others using the items they clipped? The Polyvore rules are clear. If you don't want people to use your items, then don't clip them into Polyvore. Once they are in Polyvore, they are for EVERYBODY! :)

A few hours after joining Polyvore, I had followed a bunch of people, and liked tons of sets. There was this person who I liked about 32 of her sets and 4 of her collections. She messaged me, sarcastically thanking me for 'raiding' her items. There was no 'thank you' for liking the sets. I felt very bad because I don't like upsetting people, so I apologized for liking her collections and her sets. I had also read the rules, and made sure to send her the link (same one you posted below) just so she is aware that they exist. I made sure to unfollow her so I don't mistakenly like her stuff again, when I am going through my 'following' feed and liking people's sets and collections. Now, I make it a point of duty: before I follow anyone, I read their profile; if they have written anything like 'pls don't raid my items' I avoid following them. There are some whose styles I love so much, and as much as I would love to follow them and view their lovely creations in my feed, I have to restrain myself and only visit their profile once in a while to appreciate their work.

My message to people who get upset over item usage is this:
We should ask ourselves: do I really 'own' the rights to these images? If you own the images, then that is another ball game entirely. But even if you do, your usage of Polyvore is subject to their terms and conditions. If you don't like the rules, then don't clip your personal images.
I don't mean to offend anyone, but I think this issue stems from a little insecurity about ourselves. Granted, it is very time consuming to clip stuff. I too have spent several hours clipping stuff, and I understand it can be annoying to feel like you did all the hard work only for someone else to reap the benefits. But the truth is: whether or not someone uses items that we painstakingly clipped into Polyvore, they can NEVER EVER know the creative ideas you have in your mind for the item. We are all unique, each person with his/her own style. I think it is even a compliment if someone likes your items, it means they believe you have good taste! Let them use 'your' items (which are technically, not yours to begin with) to create their own art, and you use them to create your own art. :) Afterall, everyone has used items they did not clip.

Maybe people get upset because they receive all these item usage updates from Polyvore. An easy fix is to disable them. I really don't want to get updates on how 50 people used an item I liked or clipped. It takes away from the other exciting updates.

Lastly, if anyone wants my items- TAKE THEM ALL! :) Happy Polyvoring everybody!

Regarding liking/saving items
Stated in Polyvore Community Guidelines:
Is saving another member’s liked items considered copying?
No, all items on Polyvore are for the community to use. Saving other member’s liked items is not considered copying.

I have uploaded an item & used it in Polyvore contest & someone used it & edited the item the same way.
I know once you upload an item it is free to use but it would be polite if you like the set first before using it, right?

Big sigh! I guess we just have to accept that it is inevitable that people will use the same items on PV. And, providing no-one actually copies your entire Polyvore outfit (horrible) the same item will look different from one set to the other. It is very irritating though, when people like more than twenty of your items in one foul swoop, esp after you have shopped and clipped for ages to collect them! Another thing that gets me hot under the colour is the number of people who "follow" you. They don't bother to "like" even one of your sets before hitting the "follow" and if you follow them straight back, they never bother to check your sets; you never get a "like" from them, they don't acknowledge your comments... they simply vanish (though no doubt still expecting you to check out their sets and 'like' their outfits. Mostly the PV community consists of the best, most supportive, loveliest people on the internet and for this reason, I am a total PV addict!

@shidatja Thanks for your comment! I will be frank, I am not part of a no-item-hoarding movement! I think most of the members here understand and would agree with you on the sharing of items here on Polyvore as we are well aware the items are free for all. It's not about hoarding. And most of the members here really are nice people and have absolutely no problems what so ever in sharing when it's done politely, myself included. The problem is not so much sharing items because we do it everyday, the problem is the mean behavior and spiteful and hurtful motives behind certain members who "like" items to annoy or to copy your sets!

I'm not a pioneer here but I know this is not a new issue as some very old sets were created by members who have tried to address it, unfortunately to no avail. If you can present a solution to handling this kind of behavior, by all means please share it! There are so many members here that would be delighted to know that there is a solution to this plague of meanness and bullying! I will also add that reports are made to the Poly-team regarding these issues. What is done is still to correct it is still a mystery to me. The bullies remain and continue to pester good members!

Again, thanks for your comment. It would be really nice if all members followed the do unto others as you would have done unto you rule, however in the real world some people could care less how you feel!

Hi there. I'm one of the pioneer Poly (6 years) and I have noticed this no-item-hoarding movement by some members of late. Consider this. None of these so-called items are really ours (unless you are an artist and you created an item from scratch and you add a disclaimer for others not to use your original artwork). Other than that it is all fair game. These fall more under the internet fair-use copyright rules so Polyvore can't dictate on items usage (I was an IT tech and studying Library Science, so I learned about these). Of course, copying others' designs and bullying in any manners are never ok. I have had both done to me in 6 years. I have always clipped items with sharing in mind. It does not affect anybody in a bad way unless designs are copied or "liking" items are done for bullying purposes. You can always report these acts to Poly admin. In the end, let's be mature about this matter, share and share alike (clipped items) and create more original work in earnest. Sorry for the long-winded message and thank you for all your supports. <333

@kylan I know that is so frustrating that there is little that can be done at this time about "like" lizards! I think some of the members do that out of jealousy - they see your gorgeous sets and they know they don't have a creative bone in their bodies so out of spite they copy from the polyvore greats! Consider yourself a great if you have been victom to these lizards! It's always a comfort to know the copies are never as awesome as the originals! Hugs!

Etiquette, some members don't have a clue what etiquette is. One member ( swag-rad-and-taken) liked every item in 2 of my sets and blatantly copied 1 of them. But what can you do about it? (not like her copy, and that's about it) I admit I am an item hoarder, I like items that I think are pretty and/or useful, but I would never copy. I am a designer in real life and that carry on does no one any favors!
