This hand stretched canvas print of a 1 mark Freie Stadt Danzig postage stamp from 1921 featuring a Hanseatic Trading Ship in gray surrounded by a decorative red border. Danzig was a free city and state established in Northern Europe along the Baltic Coast. It was built on centuries of German tradition but is now known as the city of Gdansk in Poland. The face of this canvas measures 9.5 x 8 inches (24 x 20.3 cm). It is from a series of 20 pieces that I will make in this size. Larger sizes are available, including an example that measures 27.5 x 23 inches (70 x 58.5 cm). If you don't see any among my other Etsy listings please inquire. I wanted to enjoy stamp artwork without a magnifying glass, without trapping these great little pieces of art in rarely seen binders. I started to blow them up and thought of Past Postage. Vintage postage stamps, meticulously scanned, cleaned, enlarged and printed on a premium archival canvas using professional equipment. The canvas is given a protective UV coating and stretched and stapled over handmade wooden frames of kiln dried poplar. Smaller pieces like this one are stretched over a half inch thick piece of high quality birch ply. The perforations of the stamps are gallery wrapped unto the sides of the frame, making additional framing unnecessary. All artwork comes securely packaged and ready to hang. This is all done under one roof by one person. Thank you for visiting - and if you like this piece I have many more in my store.
