“That show was just perfect” AnnaBella congratulated me at the after party.

“Thanks” I smiled to her, and then sipped my champagne. “It really means a lot”

“You’ll definitely see me wearing one of those gowns any time soon”

“Ooh, free advertising!” we both laughed although it was true.

I sipped my champagne again and, over AnnaBella’s shoulder, I saw Madelyn.

“Excuse me” I said to AnnaBella as politely as could, pretending not to be furious.

“What do you think you are doing here?” I said to her angry but keeping my voice low, pulling her away from Patrick Demarchelier. “Hadn’t I uninvited you?”

“Actually, no, you hadn’t” she said amused.

“Leave now” I ordered “I want you gone in five minutes. If I see you again, I’ll call security”

“Ooh, I’m so scared” she acted sarcastically.

I rolled my eyes at her childish attitude and moved on.

“Hello, Lin” Drew came out of nowhere. God, that was awkward. “Congrats on your work”

“Uhm, yeah, thanks” I answered tongue-tied. “I got to go. Enjoy the party” I excused myself and escaped from the situation faster than the speed of light.

“Excuse me. May I have your attention, please?” my mother said from the microphone. “I’d just like to thank you for being here and for being at the show later today. Your support means a lot to me and to all the company. Thank you for everything.”

I couldn’t believe how exaggeratedly thankful my mother always was. Everyone clapped and I thought that was their way to saying ‘No, thank you for inviting us. You built your own empire yourself and we didn’t do anything at all to help you. Stop thanking everyone all the time’. Well, perhaps no one was thinking that, but I was and I knew it was the pure truth.

“Thanks” she repeated, but this time to silence the claps “I would like my daughter Lin to come to stage and say a few words”

Everyone clapped and it was my turn to take the microphone.

“Well, my mother has basically reproduced my exact feelings” I lied. I knew it was hypocritical of me, but I couldn’t say my thought out loud. “Anyway, thank you again for coming and enjoy the party!” Everyone clapped as they thought that my speech was over and so was I. But as I soon as I saw Madelyn clapping and smiling on the crowd, I could help but go crazy. She was so happy to be there, not because of the event itself but because of the fact that she knew I hated her at the moment and I didn’t want her there. “Also,” I added “I would like to apologize for the lack of professionalism of Madelyn Ascencio” suddenly, everyone looked surprised “Yes, she actually going to close the show with an amazing gown but she decided to go on bitchy dive mode and leave before doing her job. Sorry for that.”

I turned the microphone off and handed it to the man who was in charge of the sound system. I made my triumphal descent down the stair while I could hear everyone gossiping. I wanted to look at Madelyn’s face but I couldn’t find her. She was probably already gone or surround by intrigued people. Either way, I felt great and exciting to seeing what the news would say the next day. I knew Madelyn wouldn’t give up without putting up revenge, but it was totally worth it.
