  • Zanotta - Sella Stool
    SOLD OUT: More info
Without a doubt, Sella is one of the great icons of Italian design from the 20th century. The stool’s design was coined by the brothers Castiglioni, Achille and Pier Giacomo that created it in 1957. In its time the chair was evaluated radical, which is why it only entered the serial production in 1983 by the Italian premium manufacturer Zanotta. Its elegance does nearly appear bizarre regarding its seat that is a traditional racing bicycle seat. Placed on a pink lacquered steel rod and ending in a robust cast-iron foot, a composition appears that magically forms a harmonious and noble object. Sella is considered an extreme design of the creative team together with the Mezzadro stool that has a tractor seat as sitting area. With Sella, the Castiglioni brothers prove their sense for converting everyday objects into original designs. Thereby the stool stands typically for the whole Zanotta collection that displays the Italian design from the 20th century, and all of it until today.

  • Zanotta - Reale Table
    SOLD OUT: More info
The Reale Table is a design-classic of the brothers Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni. It is based on a design of the year 1946 and manufactured by Zanotta. The multi-talented Mollino (who has been a successful racing driver, skier and of course designer) became famous for his dared, partly also surreal designs. One example for his fantastic is the Reale Table with its exceptional wooden frame. On the frame lies a noble crystal top with inclined, ground borders, whereby the frame is deservedly emphasized. Zantta produces Reale after an original design by Mollino. In the beginning of the 20th century, the tables were manufactured in a widely lower number. This fact and the specialty of the designs of Mollino led to immense prices on auctions today – that is how Reale was the first piece of furniture which has been paid more than one million dollars in an auction in the 20th century. Reale is also available in further editions (size, material, colour).

  • Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni Arco Floor Lamp
    SOLD OUT: More info
As a lecturer at the Politecnico di Milano in the 1980s, Achille Castiglioni would implore his students to "Start from scratch. Stick to common sense. Know your goals and means." He clearly took his own advice when he, with his elder brother Pier Giacomo, designed the dramatic Arco Floor Lamp (1962). Inspired by a streetlight, the Arco cleverly provides overhead lighting without requiring ceiling suspension, its polished shade extending nearly seven feet to accommodate a dining table or sofa beneath the light source. Aware that the 78-pound lamp would be difficult to move, the designers smartly placed a hole in the base to accommodate a broom handle. They also gave the Arco an adjustable arc and swiveling shade for precise lighting control. As groovy as it is elegant, the lamp's iconic status was sealed when it appeared on screen alongside Sean Connery in Diamonds Are Forever and in The Italian Job (apropos). The Arco is included in the permanent collection at MoMA. Bulb (included): incandescent 100W/120V/A21SB. Made in Italy.

Reintroduced in 2005 by legendary Italian lighting company Flos, the table lamp design is evocative of the brothers' work in developing new lighting typologies and technologies. Gatto was one of the first products that the manufacturer produced in its early history. Coated in a transparent finish, the cocoon is sprayed over a powder coated steel interior structure. Pioneers in creating lighting which blurred the lines between design and sculpture, the Castiglioni brothers often used easy-to-find materials and took inspiration from everyday objects and experiences.

  • Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni Taraxacum 88 Pendant Lamp
    SOLD OUT: More info
Decades after creating his Taraxacum S2 (1960), Achille Castiglioni updated his own design with the introduction of his Taraxacum 88 Suspension Lamp (1988). Taraxacum is the scientific name for the plant commonly known as dandelion, but unlike a weed that can become a lawn pest, the Taraxacum 88 is sculptural art that provides direct and reflected light. Hanging from a steel ceiling rose, the structure is made of 20 pressed and polished aluminum triangles that reflect the light of 60 clear globes. Almost like a reversed version of the original Taraxacum, which hid the bulbs under a transparent diffuser, the Taraxacum 88 celebrates the play of reflection and light. The lamp has a satisfying balance between the contrasting shapes of the round bulbs and triangular backdrops, as well as in its mixture of warm incandescent light and cool aluminum. Bulbs (included): incandescent 25W/120V/G40 medium. Made in Italy by Flos. Provides both direct and reflected light. Sixty clear globes reflect off polished aluminum triangles. Created decades after his first Taraxacum design.

  • Achille Castiglioni Taccia Lamp
    SOLD OUT: More info
Pushing design to the level of art, Achille Castiglioni creates brilliantly imagined objects that illustrate his love of paradox and, at the same time, a thoughtful concern for a formal balance. An example of this is his Taccia Table Lamp (1962), which he created with older brother Pier Giacomo Castiglioni. The design is like an upside down hanging lamp. Covering the top of a deep translucent glass bowl is a concave sheet of spun aluminum in a matte white finish. This sheet acts as a reflecting screen for the bulb which is hidden in the extruded aluminum base. This base is corrugated to better disperse the bulb's heat and effectively prevents glare from the bulb. The translucent glass bowl is not attached to the stand, which allows the user to change the light direction by rotating the bowl. Bulb (included): halogen 75W/120V/Par 30 Medium.

  • Kartell Joe Colombo 4801 Armchair
    SOLD OUT: More info
Design Joe Colombo. Transparent or batch-dyed PMMA. Made in Italy by Kartell. For the first time in its 60-year history, Kartell will pay homage to one of the most iconic - and perhaps uncharacteristic - pieces in its archive with the reissue of Joe Colombo's 4801 Armchair. Originally designed by the Italian master in 1965, the 4801 chair is famous for being the only Kartell piece ever to be made entirely of wood. Now, nearly fifty years later, Kartell has developed the complex and technically challenging engineering methods necessary to produce the design as originally envisioned, in its signature plastic. An authentic symbol of design in the '60s, the highly sought-after 4801 chair is revered by private collectors and institutions alike, and has been displayed internationally at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Victoria & Albert Museum in London and the Centre Pompidou in Paris. The second generation of the 4801 chair is to be available in a numbered series beginning in February 2012, captures the curving sinuous lines and exact proportions of Colombo's design, now in sleek transparent or white and black plastic (PMMA). Joe Colombo, in his design utopia, gathered many of the common hopes of the 60's in Italy and Europe but was never slave to ideological bounds. His extremely fast escalation in becoming an internationally known designer brought him three medals at the XIII Triennale in Milan, the 1967 Compasso d'Oro award and creations which are included in permanent collections around the world. 24.4" w | 25.2" d | 27.2" h | seat: 9.8" h.
