  • Charles and Ray Eames Eames® Molded Fiberglass Stacking Side Chair (DFSS)
    dwr.com
Charles and Ray Eames believed “design is a method of action,” and they continually updated their work as newbecame available. “The chair that Charles and Ray were designing,” explains grandson Eames Demetrios, “is the chair that’s made tomorrow.” The duo originally designed their molded chair in metal and entered it as a prototype in MoMA’s 1948 International Competition for Low-Cost Furniture Design, then refashioned it in light yet strong fiberglass just two years later. In the 1980s, after determining fiberglass production was detrimental to the environment, Herman Miller ceased production to explore more sustainable options, eventually choosing recyclable polypropylene. The company never quite forgot about fiberglass, however, and it recently began researching greener production methods. The Eames Molded Fiberglass Chair (1950) is the end result, constructed using a cleaner process but true to the original with its beloved variegated surface. This reintroduced version comes in a range of reformulated semi-gloss color pigments that faithfully reproduce the vintage ones. Its deep seat pocket and waterfall edge keep you comfortable by reducing pressure on the backs of your thighs. The seat back is left unfinished to maintain a slightly rough natural texture for easier gripping with your hands. This is an authentic Eames product by Herman Miller. Made in U.S.A. DFSS stands for dining-height fiberglass side chair with stacking base (stacks up to 14 high). Made of 99% recyclableand covered by Herman Miller’s take-back program for environmentally sound recycling (should you ever wish to part with this chair).

  • Herman Miller® Eames® Molded Fiberglass Armchair Rocker
    hivemodern.com
Design Charles & Ray Eames, 1948. Molded fiberglass, metal frame, solid wood rockers. Made by Herman Miller® "The role of the designer is that of a very good, thoughtful host anticipating the needs of his guests." -Charles Eames. Thanks to a new proprietary process of producing fiberglass, Herman Miller is once again able to produce the Eames original 1950's Molded Fiberglass Chair safely by means of a less volatile, monomer-free "dry bind" process. Like the original shell chairs, the new fiberglass finish has the same covetable surface variation and tell-tale fiberglass striation that have attracted avid vintage collectors for decades. Available in both the arm and side chair formats in eight archival colors, the chairs can be configured with a choice of wire, dowel leg, stacking, rocker, and 4-leg bases. An array of trim, finely tailored Hopsak fabrics designed by Alexander Girard, Herman Miller's Textile Director from 1952 to 1973, round out the collection of shell customization options, fully restoring the integrity of the original 1953 shell chair offerings. All chairs can be recycled through the Herman Miller Take Back Program. With a grand sense of adventure, Charles and Ray Eames turned their curiosity and boundless enthusiasm into creations that established them as a truly great husband-and-wife design team. Their unique synergy led to a whole new look in furniture. Lean and modern. Playful and functional. Sleek, sophisticated, and beautifully simple. That was and is the "Eames look." With the molded plastic, fiberglass, and wood shell chairs -as well as the wire chair- the Eames' have created a universal response to what everyone wants from a chair: a simple, gracious form that fits any body and every place. 25" w | 27.25" d | 26.5" h | seat: 16.25" h.

  • Salvage Bench Large
    restorationhardware.com
A perennial classic, our salvaged wood dining bench evokes the clean-lined parsons style. Handcrafted of unfinished, solid salvaged pine timbers from 100-year-old buildings in Great Britain. Rough-hewn salvaged wood planks, which will vary somewhat in color and grain, are carefully hand-selected, planed and lightly hand sanded, yet may show marks of previous use. Unfinished, unsealed salvaged wood bears a timeworn patina and includes distinctive nicks, splits, cracks, knots and imperfections that speak of the wood's age and provenance. Salvaged wood will continue to change over time as it interacts with its home environment, and will age beautifully. By their nature, unsealed salvaged wood planks may be somewhat uneven and may cup or bow over time due to changes in temperature or humidity. We believe this only enhances the table's rustic, unique character. This item is artisan-crafted with meticulous care. Given its handmade and hand-finished nature, variations and imperfections in the wood are to be expected and celebrated. Each salvaged item is an original and no two pieces are exactly alike. Care: Wipe using a damp cloth with mild soap and water, followed by a dry cloth. Wipe spills up immediately with a dry cloth.

Handcrafted in India of solid mango, a rustic hardwood with an eco-friendly story. Mango trees must be razed once they reach maturity, at 20 to 30 years of age, when the fruit is no longer saleable. A hardwood similar to teak with a rustic, weathered appearance, mango wood offers an ideal medium for sculpting furniture. Due to the nature of the multi-layered finish that is hand-applied by our craftspeople, each piece will have slightly different shading and grain patterns and will vary from piece to piece. Some small splits may occur, but will only add to the character. Knots and joint lines are a natural property and add interest but without affecting performance. All natural wood will display movement from season to season because of changes in temperature and humidity. These pieces are constructed with mortise and tenon assembly, which is one of the best ways to secure two pieces of wood that connects at a “t.” The end of one piece is fashioned into a round or rectangular shape (tenon), which is designed to fit into the same size hole on the other end (mortise). Features mortise and tenon joinery and a planked center panel for durability and years of use. Because of the inherent characteristics of wood, there will be some seasonal movement and change. Knots and joint lines are all common and part of the weathered design of the table. No two are exactly alike.
