I'm starting an outfit series (complete with clothing, hair, makeup) to get a feel of my general style which is always evolving. Recently I was able to find a vintage, cream, cashmere sweater in my grandfather's wardrobe. I adore the fabric, but it looks a bit oversized, and well, frumpy. To avoid looking like my mother, I paired the sweater with other things to make it look chic.

My style... is influenced by grunge, pastels, and the romantic period. Girly with edginess. I don't mind mixing lace and studs together to balance each other out. For this look, I wanted something you could wear everyday. Note: most of my looks are not for the fashion weakhearted.

One of my fashion rules is to not be too modest/conservative, but at the same time don't show too much skin. I paired the sweater with rolled-up black shorts to avoid looking like a grandmother, along with black knee socks and black combat boots. This is just one of my general rules, but when using cream and black, never mix with grey. It'll look drab. Then, to avoid looking too grungy I'd throw on a cute, girly, simple graphic t-shirt with no text and a girly necklace. A light pink pair of Ray bans would look good with this look, or simply the classic black Ray bans. To make the outfit POP (because dressing in drab colors is... dull), I'd pair it with a hot pink messenger bag.

For hair, I'd usually just leave my hair down and natural with this look. I wouldn't pin back my bands, rather I'd style them so they have a slight side bang. If I must straighten my hair because of my hair's uncontrollable tangles when I don't, I wouldn't make it pin-straight. Rather, I'd make natural waves by only straightening 1/3 of the hair on top but not near the roots. The rest I would slightly curl.

For makeup, I'd stick with the natural eye look cuz I'm lazy like that. I'd just use some kind of eyeliner and only slightly wing it, and white eyeliner on the bottom. Conceal dark bags, apply a little blush. For lips I'd apply a red lipstick with a blue pigment (not an orange pigment). Then I'd apply a gloss on the center of my lips for a more full affect.

One last rule: confidence!! Even if nobody else is wearing what you're wearing, wear your look with confidence. You look good!
