Distilling the idea of an occasional table to its simplest form, Baughman’s cylindrical design draws you in with its smoothness and warmth. It features seams that are painstakingly welded, ground and polished by hand until they blend in as much as possible. Once constructed, Drum is coated with bronze, oxidized and hand-relieved to give it a unique patina, eschewing the sterility of machine-made pieces. The Mirror Throw (1973) is one of his most iconic graphic designs, originally conceived for the famous Visiona II fantasy environment that he created for the Cologne Furniture Fair in 1970. • Hoptimist - Bumble
    SOLD OUT: More info
Hoptimists stand for happiness and optimism, qualities not so often viewed. The Gustav Ehrenreich designed couple Bimble & Bumble were re-edited, since they haven’t lost any of their magic yet. As the name already reveals, Hoptimists ensure good mood by hopping. Bumble is Bimble’s brother and it delights with wakeful glimpses and acts cleverly. The design of the Bumble comes from the year 1968, but nothing changed regarding the happy principle since then: When Bumble is pulled down or pushed, it floats to the sides and up and downwards. Bumble simply spreads well-being and happiness – something hard to leave, once known. The Hoptimists ensured themselves a place all over the world in the 1970ies with this simple, but genius construction. And they still prove that the idea doesn’t age: The Bumble and Bimble figures are a great decoration idea in children’s rooms or on top of baby cots. The small ones will be delighted by the hopping Bumble, but also grownups will smile by the charm of the Hoptimists-series’ figure. Bumble is available in different colours.

  • Vitra - Miniature Aarnio Ball Chair
    SOLD OUT: More info
With its simple, striking shape and its bright colors Eero Aarnio's Ball Chair is a typical symbol of the optimistic, consumer-oriented popular culture of the 1960s. Equally apparent is an unconcealed enthusiasm for the technical which also typifies the era: Its exposed plastic which allowed even complex shapes to be produced in series relatively easily, at the time something completely new, and its dynamic shape, reminiscent of a space capsule. The idea of this kind of mobile capsule allowing people to sit where they want within the house also anticipates the kind of living concepts discussed in the 1970s for a young, liberal society. On the outside, this gleaming, polished sphere seems cold and futuristic, but its inside reveals a space where users can feel cozy and protected. From the inside outside noise is considerably muffled, allowing users to relax in any number of positions, for example, to sit cross-legged. Mounted on a round metal base just above ground level, the sphere can be completely rotated on its own axis, so that users can vary their view from the »cave«. Ball Chair thus represents a special category of household objects. It is something between a piece of furniture and a piece of architecture and at the same time embodies both the mobile and the established, the fixed. The original of the Aarnio Ball Chair was designed by Eero Aarnio in 1965 and it is produced as 1:1 model by Adelta, Dinslaken/Germany since 1990. The here offered miniature by Vitra (scale 1:6) consists of fiberglass, aluminium and fabrics.

  • Domestic To the West Wallpaper
    SOLD OUT: More info
A French invention, panoramic wallpaper has gone through several waves of crazes, most often related to the health of the wallpaper industry. Its very first appearance goes back to the end of the 18th century, its expansion to the Restoration and its last breaths in the 1970/1980s. Considered to be old-hat at the end ofthe 1980s by an exaggeration of its initial interest, to open a artificial window to a realistic or fantasyexterior, the style disappeared with the photographic models caricaturing the natures of the «Four Seasons» (snow-capped summits, flamboyant sunsets, etc.) The new Domestic landscapes propose rehabilitating and reintroducing monumental decors with panoramic wallpaper by making a clean sweep of the photographic tracks explored in the past and by proposing about 10 artists, designers or graphic artists to create contemporary decors which today can justify rehabilitating this type of decor. Imagined and designed by +41, Coco Tassel, Dylan Martorell, Elisabeth Arkhipoff, Geneviève Gauckler, Ich & Kar, Jeremyville, Jon Burgerman, Klaus Haapaniemi, Kustaa Saksi, Mark Verhaagen, matali crasset, Pandarosa, Pierre Marie, Rolito, Ryan Cox, Studio Job, Tado, Timorous beasties the decors in this initial collection economise on large openings to landscapes that are sometimes dreamlike,or introspective, urban or pastoral, nostalgic or prospective and, most of the time, on a nature or a world dreamed of and inhabited by fantasy creatures. Printed on high-quality intissé paper, each decor is 4 metres wide by 3 metres high and comes in the form of eight strips to be assembled. All the decors can be cut downwards and across to adapt to all sizes of walls. Limited edition to 100 numbered pieces per year and signed by the artist. In detail: Type : Wallpaper. Colour : Black, Brown, Taupe. Material : Intisse paper. Dimensions : Size of 1 width : W 46,5 cm x H 300 cm - Total size (8 widths) : W 372 cm x H 300 cm - You can cut the widths to adapt the dimension to your wall. Characteristics : Limited edition to 100 numbered pieces per year and signed by the artist - Includes : 8 widths - To apply like a traditional wallpaper (with paste)

Jo Hammerborg was recognised for his innovative, modernist design, and the Orient pendant was one of his many commercial successes in the 1960s and 1970s. Exactly 50 years on from the lamp's creation, Lightyears has chosen to relaunch Orient in close cooperation with the Hammerborg family, the heirs of Jo Hammerborg's design. • Vitra Verner Panton Visiona Stool
    SOLD OUT: More info
Design Verner Panton, 1970. Polyurethane foam, polystyrene core, MDF base. Made in Germany by Vitra. "Most people spend their lives living in dreary, beige conformity, mortally afraid of using color. The main purpose of my work is to provoke people into using their imagination and make their surroundings more exciting." -Verner Panton. In 1970, Danish designer Verner Panton was commissioned by Bayer AG to create Visiona 2, a living landscape that became known as one of the most radical future living scenarios of the 20th century. Inspired by Pop Culture and Science Fiction, Visiona 2 brought the societal transformation of the 1960s and 1970s into the private living sphere, instead of clear room divisions and conventional furniture, Panton applied colorful upholstery elements that projected a relaxed, informal lifestyle. Verner Panton designed the Visiona Stool as part of the interior installation created in 1970 for his legendary Visiona exhibition in Cologne. The compact upholstered stool not only provides practical and comfortable seating but also adds vibrant color accents that can be coordinated with any interior, thanks to the large selection of fabric colors. The unobtrusive geometric shape allows the Visiona Stool to be paired with a wide range of furnishings. Due to its light weight, it can be easily repositioned and combined into spontaneous groupings. The robust fabric cover is secured with an elastic band, which makes it simple to remove and clean. 16" h | 16.5" dia.
  • Norman Cherner Cherner® Task Chair
    SOLD OUT: More info
Although a pioneer in prefab housing, Norman Cherner is best known for his molded plywood seating line he created for – and ultimately sued – the manufacturer, Plycraft. After telling Cherner that his design for what is now known as the Cherner® Chair (1958) had been scrapped, Plycraft's owner continued to produce it, claiming himself as the designer. The Chair's popularity soared when it appeared in Norman Rockwell's 1961 painting "The Artist at Work" on the cover of the Saturday Evening Post. Cherner sued, and while Plycraft agreed to pay Cherner royalties, the line was out of production by the early 1970s. In 1999, Cherner's sons formed the Cherner Chair Company to revive the designs and produce them as their father originally intended. The Cherner Task Chair represents an evolution of the Cherner line – his sons produced the chair from their father's initial sketches and prototypes. Lightweight and hardworking, this swiveling, height-adjustable seat has steel arms with walnut armrests. This is an authentic chair by Cherner Chair Company. Cherner Chair is a licensed trademark of Cherner Chair Company. Made in U.S.A.

  • Foldable Star Sculptures
    More info
John Kostick's Foldable Stars (1965) began as models of mathematical concepts, particularly the structural-relationship principle known as tensegrity (or tensional integrity). "The abstract lines that define geometric forms are indicated by actual physical parts that interact synergetically," says the designer. "Thus symmetry and structural integrity are the results of the assemblage of simple linear components, tension and compression, push and pull." Kostick refers to his Stars as "mathematical truths that you can hold in your hand," and after you pick one up, you'll have a hard time putting it down. They can be hung or placed on display, but they invite interaction, and they are fun to play with. Handcrafted in Massachusetts, these multi-axis Foldable Stars are made of bronze that will patina beautifully over time. Kostick was granted a patent for his Stars in 1970. Made in U.S.A. Chosen by the editors at Elle Decor as one of their favorite holiday gift ideas.

  • Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand Outdoor LC7 Swivel Chair
    SOLD OUT: More info
The LC7 Swivel Chair (1928) evolved from one of a number of experiments, including an attempt to fashion a chair by wrapping inner tubes from tires around a steel frame. As the Le Corbusier group refined such trials, a sensuous solution took form. A round, thickly padded seat rests on top of a curving claw-like base of tubular steel that resolves in a swivel mechanism, giving the seat pad a buoyant look. A curved, amply padded barrel, doubling as backrest and chair arms, links three tubular steels supports that fuse at the seat base. The LC Series was originally designed for indoor use, but after a visit to Villa Savoye, where some of the pieces were being used on the outdoor terrace, Cassina was inspired to create outdoor-safe models. The manufacturer spent 3 years working closely with the LC Foundation to develop a product that was within the foundation’s parameters: To be “the same or better quality than indoor.” Cassina opted for better, using hand-polished AISI 304 stainless-steel with silver welding, as opposed to chrome, to construct the frames – a material with extreme resistance to corrosion that is actually more authentic to the product; chrome was not used until the 1970s/-80s. The silver welding will patina over time and develop a halo. Sunbrella® fabric covers the UV-resistant (and waterproof) seat and backrest cushions, which are wrapped in “Ecofill” – a hypoallergenic fiber that dries quickly. Each piece is signed and numbered and, as a product of Cassina's Masters Collection, is manufactured by Cassina under exclusive worldwide license from the Le Corbusier Foundation. Made in Italy. A protective, water-repellant cover is included.
