Bucking the popular trend among fellow Star Wars geeks, "Return of the Jedi" is actually my favorite film from the original trilogy, and I would suggest the most stylish of the three as well.
From a style perspective, I believe that Leia has the most wardrobe changes in this film--as do several other characters. Additionally, Luke finally gets to wear big-boy pants (i.e., he gets all bad ass in basic black).
From a storyline perspective, I am a sucker for seeing good triumph over evil. So, while I love that Lucas didn't make "Empire" (ranked the best and most popular of the three among most SWGeeks) with a typical storybook ending, "Jedi" takes top honors with me for the redemption of Anakin Skywalker. I think this became even more true after watching the prequels and seeing a fearful, angry young Anakin grow up wanting to do the right thing and struggling when the his "right thing" and every one else's seemed in conflict. When you learn that love more than power--and the fearful, angry side of love--was his true undoing.
SIDE NOTE: I don't know if I ever* cried as hard in a movie as I did in "Revenge of the Sith" when Anakin--consumed by fear that he will lose his love and unborn child--broke, crumbled and committed his life to the Emperor and the dark side of the force. It was a crushing moment.
(*I probably have, but still…)
I don't think I have to say a lot about the choices I've made for this set. The blue force lightning plays an important role in the turning of Vader back to the light, so it is represented in this set with light and cool accessories and make-up accents.
You will note that I did not include glasses or sunglasses in this set in honor of Anakin's dying wish, "Let me look on your with my own eyes." The harmonic is my own personal joke (albeit, not terribly funny) because I always thought that the breathing/speaking device revealed in Vader's helmet (once removed) looked like a harmonica.
Much like the franchise itself, don't think that because I've created a set celebrate the "last" film in the Star Wars saga that this is, by any means, my final Star Wars set.
